Headline | UNCLE GEORGE BAYLESS DIES SUDDENLY AT EXETER FRIDAY |
Text | George Martin Bayless died at the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Myrtle Bayless in Exeter, last Friday night, Feb. 15, at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 29 days. He retired for the night, feeling as well as usual but soon after retiring his daughter-in-law heard him making an unusual noise. Upon going to his bed she found him in an unconscious condition from which he did not revive. He only lived a few minutes after being found. George Martin Bayless was born August 17, 1850 in Alabama. He was the son of John and Lurana Bayless being the youngest of eleven children, all of the others precede him in death. In October 1869, he was married to Martha Stephens, who preceded him in death two years ago. To their union three children were born, two daughters, Mrs. Emma McNally and Mrs. Birdie McCary, both of Exeter, Mo., one son Polk Bayless who and precede him in death two years ago. He was converted almost fifty years ago at the Old Antioch church, three miles northeast of Exeter, and united with that church at that time and has been a true and faithful member since. He has been in failing health for about six months, and has always borne his sickness with patience and fortitude. He loved a true Christian life and has always been a true husband and father to his family, and was dearly loved by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his death, two daughters, seven grandchildren and thirteen great- grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. Funeral Services were conducted at the Antioch church on Sunday afternoon by Rev. C. M. Smith and Chas Vanzandt. His body was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Antioch cemetery. Funeral directors were Barr and Blankenship. Uncle George as he was familiarly known, had resided in this county many years and was a man who word was his bond. He always stood for right and honor and was a man among men at all times. He has always taken an active part in public affairs. The excellent and high standing family which he raised is evidence of the high character of this estimable father and citizen. The Democrat joins the many friends of this bereaved family in extending sympathy over the loss of their splendid father. |
