| Text | Cassville, Mo. - Hugh D. Bates, 74, Cassville, died at 4:15am Tuesday at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, after a long illness. Born Feb. 8, 1909, at Afton, Okla., he came to Exeter with his parents as an infant. He was a lifetime area resident. He was a merchant and owned Bates Corner, east of Cassville, for more than 25 years before retiring in March 1971. He was a member of Mill Street Church of Christ, Cassville. He married Geneva Lois Curry Nov. 25, 1934, at Seneca. Survivors are a son, a daughter, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services will be at 2pm Thursday at Axley's Culver Chapel with Ron Stough, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter.
