Headline | TOM BARKER FOUND DEAD |
Text | George Thomas Barker, 58 years old, long-time resident of Newtonia Route Two, was found dead in bed at his home two miles north of Fairview about 10 o'clock Thursday morning June 27. Tom as he was usually called, was single and a married brother, Harry Barker resided with him. Tom was in Wheaton late Wednesday afternoon and did not retire until late that night after he reached home. He failed to arise for breakfast Thursday morning but the family supposed he desired to sleep late. Mrs. Barker, his sister-in-law, became uneasy about 10 o'clock and called her husband to the house to see if anything was wrong with his brother. When Harry went to Tom's room he found his brother laying in his bed dead. Dr. S. A. Russell said, after he had examined the body, he had been dead for several hours. The Barker's are an old time family of Newton County, Barker Lake on Shoal Creek, having been named for Thomas Barker's father. |
