Text | Lois Jean Baker, 56, of Mt. Vernon, died at 7:50 a.m. July 28 at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield following a sudden illness. Mrs. Baker was born April 2, 1949, in Monett, the daughter of Lavern and Clara Wuellner Schnake. She worked as a collector and municipal court clerk for the City of Mt. Vernon for 26 years, retiring June 30 of this year but continuing as part-time court clerk. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge and Covenant Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. She married Denny Baker on November 8, 1969, in Mt. Vernon. Survivors include one son, one daughter, three brothers, four sisters, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, David Schnake. Services were 10 a.m. today, August 1, at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon with Rev. Mark Killingsworth officiating. Burial was in Mt. Vernon City Cemetery under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home of Mt. Vernon. Memorials may be made to the Eagles Lodge in Mt. Vernon for the Toys for Tots Christmas Drive. |
