Text | The Rev. David Albert Akehurst, 92 years old is survived by 99 descendants, died Tuesday morning at the home of a son, A. E. Akehurst of Jane.
Mr. Akehurst had lived in McDonald County 42 years. Surviving are seven children, 40 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren. The other children are John E. Akehurst of Jane, Mrs. Lillie E. Alexander of Pittsburg, Mrs. Luttia A. Wagner of Prairie Town, Tex., Mrs. Effie O. Cooper of Powell, James B. Akehurst of Detroit and Mrs. Emma Shira of Carl Junction. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon (today) at the Roller Church on Big Sugar Creek, east of Powell, and burial made in the church cemetery under the direction of Pogue Funeral Home. Research Note: Roller Cemetery is within a mile of the Barry County line. Rev. Akehurst was the founder of the Simsberry Church in McDonald County. His daughter, Effie Orilla Akehurst, married Thomas Green Cooper and they had 15 children, 12 to live to adulthood. Rev. David Albert Akehurst married Sarah A. England in Pontiac, IL. Sarah was a daughter of Rhu - or Rue and Sarah England and was born in Picaway Co., OH. |
