SSW: Eva - Research Note: Albert F. "Cotton" Walden, age 92, of Washburn, Missouri, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2007, in his home. He was born April 1, 1914 in Beaver, AR, and was a son of James and Laura (Young) Walden. On May 29, 1934 he was united in marriage to Eva E. Paul, who preceded him in death on November 12, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Bonnie Pendergraft; three brothers, Elvis, Abe and J. S.; three sisters, Opal, Thelma and Norma Lee; one grandson, Ricky Henry and one great-grandson, Joshua Pendergraft. "Cotton" as most everyone knew him, received his education in Bush, Arkansas. He worked for Dunlap Produce for several years and was a carpenter in Kansas City. Cotton worked on the construction of Beaver Dam and moved to Washburn in 1935. He did volunteer work for the City, became Mayor and was responsible for getting the fire department started. In 2003 he was named "Washburn Man of the Year". She was born November 17, 1914, in Cherokee Co., KS, and was a daughter of Nelson and Quintella (Hall) Paul. She owned and operated a cafe in Washburn and was a cook at Roaring River Lodge and Restaurant for many years. She worked at Tyson Foods in Monett until retiring. She was a member of the Washburn Senior Citizens and the Church of Christ in Washburn. She married Albert "Cotton" Walden on May 29, 1934, and he survives. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Paul, Joe Paul, and Lester Paul; four sisters, Iva Myers, Erma Robbins, Ferne Cummings, and Pauline Paul; one grandchild and one great grandchild. Research Note: He was the son of Clovis Abe and Mary Bernice (Elgin) Walden. Preceding him in death were his parents and two sons, Mike and Teddy. Gary grew up and received his education at Washburn, graduating from Southwest High School. In June, 1961 he entered the United States Air Force, serving until 1966. He then worked for the Missouri Conservation Commission in the fish hatchery at Table Rock Dam in Branson. Mr. Walker was well known here as he had lived in Washburn and neighborhood until this winter since 1886.He was married to Maria Hickman, Feb 24, 1859. Research Note: Daughter of James and Jessie Hayworth. In 1948 in she was united in marriage to Roger Walker, who preceded her in death in 2005. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Randy Walker; three brothers and three sisters. Surviving are two sons; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. At the age of seventeen Rosie moved to Wichita, Kansas where she lived with her sister, Jean, working various jobs to support herself. It was while working at Cessna Aircraft Company that she met Roger. She later attained her CNA certification and the remaining forty years of her life was spent taking care of others, which she loved doing. Rosie enjoyed cooking, crocheting, crafts, Grand Ole Opry music and going to the casino. She was always willing to help anyone that was in need. Research Note: Jack E. Watson, 77, of Granby, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 9, 2013, at Freeman West Hospital, following a sudden illness. He was born May 6, 1936, in Washburn and lived in the southwest Missouri area all of his life. He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Cassville American Legion, No. 118. Jack was a retired truck driver for Praxair and was a former deputy sheriff, serving under Frosty Land and Joe Abramovitz, and he had worked at the Joplin Police Department. He was a member of Granby Masonic Lodge 514. He was saved at a tent revival in November, 1947 at Washburn and was baptized in a creek. Jack was a faithful member of Sweetwater Baptist Church. It appears also that he has no stone. - He married Permillia Ann Withers on Feb. 8, 1877 in Lawrence Co., MO. He was a Civil War Veteran. E 6th MO Cav. Enlisted on Feb. 28, 1862 in Cassville, MO and discharged on Mar. 2, 1865 in Baton Rouge, LA. In 1905, he was living in the National Home for disabled volunteer soldiers in Leavenworth, KS. Permillia filed for his pension on May 29, 1907. She died in 1916 and is buried at Mt. He had not worked since 1925, but he was a farmer for 35 years. He was age 79 and 3 days old when he died. At the age of 22 he was married to Sarah Guiles of Holmes City, Douglas Co., MN, Oct. 24, 1875. They came to Washburn, Jan. 1900, where he has since resided until his departure. Mr. Westmoreland was baptized June 16, 1921, by Elder Brattin, and joined the First Baptist chruch at Washburn. He was an honored citizen and loved by all who knew him, and was a devoted husbnad. He leaves to mourn his passing his aged wife and two sisters, besides other relatives. His sisters are Mrs. L.D. Windes of Washburn, who passed to his reward at that place, Thursday, Sept. 27, 1917, after a continued decline in health for sometime, aged 65 years, 9 months, and 2 days. He was born in Jefferson county, Ill., Dec. 25, 1841, and his parents moved to Linn Creek, Camden county, Mo., when the decadent was a small child. There he grew to manhood and later moved to Waynesville, Pulaski county, where he engaged in the mercantile business very successfully.
