Research Note: WW I Veteran. His death certificate reads that he was married and his wife's name was Helen. The cause of his death was tuberculosis of throat and lungs. He was age 31 years, 1 month and 8 days old when he died. His father was Reubin T. Raines, born IN, Jane Marshall, born TN, was his mother. Helen (Apple) Raines, Washburn, MO, was the informant. - Cassville Democrat, March 17, 1928 (Partial Online Obit) He was born and reared on the Raines farm on Washburn Prairie. He was married to Miss Helen Apple on February 23, 1925. To this union was born one child who survives him. He served his country during the last war, and it was while stationed at Camp Mc Arthur, Tex., that he had the flu, which finally led to his contracting the disease which caused his death. There is to mourn his passing, his wife, son Paul, mother, and four sisters, Gertrude at home, Mrs. Clarence Farwell, Cassville, Mo., Mrs. Ola Lough, Gifford, Idaho, and Mrs. Caddie Robertson, also two brothers, James of Monett, and Darl of Washburn, beside a host of other relatives and friends. He second married Mabel McCaslin on Apr. 22, 1902 in Newton Co., MO. - Cassville Democrat, May 16, 1934 - (Partial Online Obit) Robert Darrel Raines was born in Salem, Iowa. He was a son of the late Reuben Raines. He died May 1, in the Wheaton hospital, following an operation for appendicitis. He was married to Mabel McCaslin in 1902. She is highly educated and cultured and her many graces fit her well for the new relations upon which she has entered. Research Note: November 16, 1907, Cassville Democrat - Passed to the Great Beyond: Mrs. Kate Reese, wife of the late S. A. Reese, died Sunday evening, Nov. 10, of general debility, age 76 years, 9 months. She was the mother of F. N. and Al Reese of this city, D. G. Reese of near Washburn, Mrs. Kate Robbins, Lawrence Co., G. C. Reese of Miller, Peter Reese of Okla. and Sam Reese of Idaho. For 35 years Mrs. Reese had been a member of the M. E. Church South, and died in that faith, the remains were conveyed to Washburn Prairie, Monday afternoon and there laid to rest beside her husband, who had gone before. Reese, is as follows: Our Grandfather Reese and family came from Virginia in 1857 near Richmond to State of Kansas where he homesteaded. From there he went to Vernon County, MO, where he stayed during the Civil War. Grandfather did not fight in the Civil War (he hid out) and Grandmother and her five little children were burned out of their homes "three different homes" by Kansas Bushwhackers or guerillas, leaving her with one small wagon with shafts, one horse, one feather bed and a few quilts. After the Civil War he came to Washburn, Barry County, MO - settled in Old Washburn - where he followed the blacksmith trade. This was year of 1866. Benjamin Newton Reese, a brother of Grandfather Reese, made his home in his latter days with Grandfather, since he had never married. Died at home of Grandfather in or near Seligman, Barry County, MO. The body was brought to Washburn Prairie Cemetery for burial. His grave being just east of Grandfather and Grandmother Reese.
