Research Note: According to the online newspapers Albert was a son of David O. George. His mother was Sarah Smith. - The news item reads: Cassville Republican, April 24, 1919 - Albert George Dead - A telegram was received here Monday by the relatives of Albert George, stating that he had died Sunday, April 20, at Gudua Springs, Kan. He had been at the Springs for some time for treatment for rheumatism. Mr. George was a son of the late David O. George, an old settler on Washburn Prairie. He was a brother of J. W. George of this city who died a short time ago, of the late Dr. George of Berryville, Ark., and of Mrs. Sarah Evans. Larry George, a nephew, of Kansas City went to Gudua Springs Monday upon receipt of the news of his uncle's death, to look after the body which is being brought to Washburn Prairie Cemetery for interment. SSW: Alice McClure George - Research Note: Husband of Alice (McClure) George. - Partial Obit: He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David O. George and was born at the late George home, out on Washburn road 5 miles, in 1854, and had practically lived in this county all his life. He attended Clark's Academy at Berryville, Ark., and afterwards studied law in the office of Phelps, McAfee and Massey in Springfield and was admitted to the bar. On January 5, 1887, he and Miss Alice McClure, a daughter of the late Wm. and Mrs. Jane McClure of near Washburn, were married and they moved to this city and have lived here since. Mrs. George died some 15 years ago. There was born of this marriage, one son Larry, and two daughters, Misses Florence and Mary O. George, who survive the parents. Online Obit

Research Note: He was the son of William Durham and Stella Mable (Webb) Gowen. On June 21, 1953, in Cassville, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Norma Jean Baker. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Wayne Gowen. Billy grew up and received his education at Washburn where he graduated from high school. After high school he joined the United States Army, during World War II, serving from September 23, 1944 until August 25, 1946. He then attended the University of Arkansas before being called back to the Army during the Korean War and served from October 23, 1950, until September 22, 1951. Upon returning home he finished his studies at the University of Arkansas and received his bachelor's degree. He had been employed with the Extension Service in Arkansas for a while and then moved to Wichita, where he was an Industrial Engineer for Boeing Aircraft for thirty-two years. Fohn Funeral Home

The deceased leaves a wife and family of 13 living children, ten of whom are married. - He is buried in the Van Loon Cemetery in Holmes City, Douglas Co., MN. - March 23, 1916, Thursday, Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO - Margaret Raulison, was born Nov 14, 1822, at Charleston, N.Y. She was married to Wm. Guiles, at the age of 15, at Charleston, N. Y. She was converted when ten years old and joined the Methodist Episcopal church. She and her family moved from New York in 1865, settling in Minnesota. To them were born thirteen children, eight girls and five boys, eleven of which are living. Her husband, Wm. Guiles died in 1877. She leaves fifty-one grand children, twenty-seven great-grand children, and twelve great-great grand children and making ninety, in all. Her family is scattered, Mrs. Alice Spofford, Conklin, N. Y.; Christopher Guiles, Hallstead, Penn.; Mrs. Mary Thompson, Cora Penn; Frances Guiles, Alexandria, Minn.; Mrs. Lucinda Langiven and Silence Stephenson, Kemp., Minn.; Mrs. Hannah M. Wray, Orting, Wash.; Mrs. Helen M. Bly, Wenetenbee, Wash.; Wm. H. Guiles, and Mrs. Sarah A. Westmoreland, Washburn, Mo. In 1900 she moved to Washburn with her daughter, Mrs. Westmoreland, where she lived until her spirit took its flight. Her children being so far away none were present when the Death Angle came expect her daughter, Mrs. Westmoreland. She had been a great care for many years but her daughter with her loving heart cared for her many wants with that faithfulness that can only be rewarded in heaven. Grandma Guiles lived to the great age of 93 years, 3 months and 25 days. She was a true Christian attending all means of grace, helping to support the same until too feeble to do so. The funeral services were conducted by Bro. L. R. lamb of Cassville at the Union Church in Washburn at 1 p.m., March 12, 1916. She was laid to rest in the Washburn Prairie cemetery. Note

Research Note: He married at age 20, Lillian B. Adcock, age 19, on Oct. 30, 1898 in Washburn, Barry Co., MO. She was born Oct. 1879 in Barry Co., MO. He was the son of William Henry Guiles and Charity Elizabeth Westmoreland. Lillian was the daughter of John Adcock and Martha George buried in Washburn Prairie Cemetery. She died in 1957 Greeley, Weld Co., CO and is buried there in the Linn Grove Cemetery beside her son Floyd. - Cassville Republican, Jan. 6, 1938 - Walter Ernest Guiles, formerly of Washburn, died at his home in Broadhead, Co., Dec. 23, 1937. He was born at Home City, MN, June 1878. He was 59 Years, five months and 26 days old. He had lived a number of years at Washburn, before going to CO. He was united in marriage to Miss Lillian Adcock of Washburn, Oct. 30, 1898. To this union five children were born. They are: John William of Oakley, MI; Mrs. Ruth Anderson of Broadhead, CO; Mrs. Bettie Nesbit of Plattenville, CO; and Floyd and Walter of the home. Besides his wife and children and 7 grandchildren, he leaves to mourn his passing two sisters; Mrs. Thomas of Los Angeles CA and Mrs. Emma Houston of Washburn, and one foster brother George of Pittsburg, KS, also a host of other relatives and friends. The remains were brought to Washburn where funeral services were held on Wed. Afternoon, Dec. 29, 1937 by Rev. Charles Vanzandt. Burial in the Washburn Prairie Cemetery, with the Barr Blankenship Funeral Service in charge. Note

He was first married to Bessie Verona Scott. - Wellington Leader, Wellington, Collingsworth Co., TX., February 26, 1987 - Chester Madison Gunter, 81, a former deputy sheriff of Collingsworth County, died January 23, after an illness of two weeks, family friends, Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Hale have been notified. His home was in Seligman, Mo. Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, in Williams Chapel at Cassville, Mo. and burial was in Washburn Prairie Cemetery, Washburn, Mo. Mr Gunter was a deputy sheriff under the late Sheriff Paul Bell. Later he lived in Amarillo, before moving to Missouri. He is survived by three sons, Gene Gunter of Naperville, IL. James Gunter of Woodbury, Long Island, New York, and Randolph Gunter of Kearns, Utah; one brother, Hugh Gunter of Amarillo; two sisters, Margie Johnson and Ola Gunter, both of Stockton, Calif, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. SSW: Lois M. - Research Note: Son of William and Lillian (Coleman) Gurney. On August 14, 1976, in Kansas City, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Lois (Nelson) Groves. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers. George received his education in Deer, Arkansas, graduating from Deer High School in 1952. He then attended Arkansas Technical College in Russellville. For four years he served in the United States Navy as a machinist mate. Throughout his life time he worked for Bendix Corporation in Kansas City where he was a draftsman and then for the Kansas City Water Department as a chemical engineer. He retired from General Motors in the Trim Department in 1986. Eighteen years ago he moved to Cassville to make his home. - He first married at age 26, Peggy J. Research Note: According to her death certificate her father was William Varner, born TN and her mother was Katherine Shipley, born TN, and she was age 78 years, 5 months and 28 days old when she died. E. W. Daugherty, Purdy, MO, was the informant. She is buried next to her first husband John A. Daugherty. - Her second husband was Joel Periman Jr., third husband was Francis Lasiter, fourth husband was Jacob Baker, and fifth was George Washington Gurley. - Cassville Democrat Obit - "Aunt Nan" Gurley, Purdy, Dies Suddenly in a Chair. - Mrs. Nancy S. Daugherty Gurley of Purdy, died suddenly in her home Thursday afternoon. She was sitting in a chair talking with a neighbor, Mrs. Della LeFurjah, when she was seized with a heart attack and died immediately. The heart ailment had been chronic with her. - A short funeral service was held at the Baptist Church in Purdy, Sunday. The body was taken to her own church home, the Washburn Prairie Church where another funeral service was held. Rev. Charles Vanzandt, Rev. C. M. Smith and Rev. Jack Yancey officiated at the services. Burial was in the Washburn Prairie cemetery under the direction of Blankenships of Purdy. - She will rest by the side of her first husband, John A. Daugherty, who died March 20, 1891. - Mrs. Gurley who was affectionately known as "Aunt Nan" was the widow of the late George Gurley, whom she married in 1916 and who died Apr. 5, 1924. - Nancy S. Varner was born in Tennessee on Nov. 14, 1855. The family moved to Cassville when she was five years old. Later she moved to Washburn Prairie where she lived until about 20 years ago when she went to Purdy to make her home. She was the mother of three children by her first marriage, only one surviving, a son, E. W. Daugherty, who lived with her. A daughter, Mrs. Lily Henson, died June 13, 1903, and another daughter died Nov. 21, 1922. She is survived by eight grandchildren and five great grand children. A brother, J. F. Varner, lives at Cassville. A sister, Mrs. Pearl Fulton, lives at Washburn, and another sister, Mrs. Mary Herron lives at Shawnee, OK. Note
