Research Note: Husband, Theodore Raymond "Ray" Goodwin preceded her in death Oct. 27, 1969. Stone reads that he died Oct. 25, 1969. - She was a daughter of Henry J. and Catherine (Courdin) Long. - Neva Goodwin, 100, died August 14 at the home of her daughter, Kay Hamblin, in Yreka, California. She was buried in Monett, Missouri. Mrs. Goodwin was the first superintendent's wife to live in Death Valley. T.R. Goodwin had been an engineer in Sequoia when he was put in charge of the newly created monument in 1933. He also served in Yellowstone, Yosemite and Grand Canyon during his NPS career. He died in 1972. Memorial donations in Mrs. Goodwin's name may be made to Waldensian Presbyterian Church in Monett, MO 65708. Survivors include sister Chris Driskill, daughter Kay Hamblin, son Ted Goodwin, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Research Note: Single, railroad worker and farmer. Cause of death, myocardial failure, arteriosclerosis. Father was Henry Jabas (must be incorrect), mother unknown. Informant was Mrs. Albert Rauch of Monett. His sister's death certificate gives their parents as George F. and Aline Jabas. - Joplin Globe, June 27, 1952 - Funeral services for Ernest Julius Jabas, 85 years old, a resident of the Monett district 69 years, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon in the Bennett-Wormington funeral home. The Rev. L. N. Bartelsmeyer will officiate. Burial will be in Waldensian cemetery. Mr. Jabas died early today at the home of his niece, Mrs. Albert Rausch, NE of Monett. Born in Switzerland on Jan. 10, 1867, he came to the Monett district at the age of 16 with his mother and sister. He was employed by the St. Louis and San Francisco RR for many years and later engaged in farming a mile south of Monett. He retired from the farm four years ago and since then had made his home with his niece, Mrs. Rausch. Research Note: NOTE: Obit does not give a burial place but his son is buried here. - He was the oldest son of the late Wilbert Johnson and Gladys (Russell) Johnson. He graduated from Verona High School with the Class of 1954 and enlisted in the United States Army in December of that same year. He served in the Artillery Unit in Korea from December of 1955 to December of 1956 and was honorably discharged upon his return. Charles was a member of the Waldensian Presbyterian Church, where he served on various boards through the years. Charles worked in construction for many years and built several of his family's homes. He also worked for the Gas Service Company, now Spire, and retired in May of 1992 after twenty-five years. Charles was a life-long farmer and loved his Black Angus cattle. He was united in marriage on February 21, 1958 to Patricia Boucher, of Monett, MO. Charles was preceded in death by his son, Russell "Todd" Johnson; one brother, Don Curtis Johnson; and two sisters, Janie Walles and Deborah Jones. Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations have been suggested to the Waldensian Presbyterian Church or the Waldensian Cemetery in care of the funeral home. Research Note: She was the daughter of the late Carl Xenophan Bowman and Dalhia Marie (Snyder) Bowman. Dorothy enjoyed playing sports of all kind, especially softball. In 1965, she played on a fast-pitch team for Hiland Dairy that earned 2nd place in State playoffs. She was able to play softball well into her 40's. She also was an avid bowler. Throughout her life, she always enjoyed supporting her family, especially her grandchildren, in their sports and school activities. She enjoyed crafts, quilting and was a very patriotic person, always supporting those in and those who have served our country in the military. In her early years, Dorothy worked as an EMT for Monett. With her natural ability to help those in need with a loving heart, Dorothy began her career that she thoroughly loved at Hospice Compassus. She retired about ten years ago as the Volunteer Coordinator. Dorothy also loved her Lord and Savior and had a strong and devoted faith. She was a member of the Ozark Christian Church in Purdy. Dorothy married George Wayne Lamp, Jr on 29 Oct 1969 at First Baptist Church, Monett, MO. They had one son. This marriage ended and she then married Harold Harvey. They divorced and she later married William T. Blinzler on 25 Apr 1988. He preceded her in death on 21 May 2012. She later married Eugene Lee Jones on 12 Jul 2014. He preceded her in death on 2 Jun 2021. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Jack and Dick Bowman. Dorothy is survived by her son and his wife; five beloved step-children; a sister-in-law; three nephews; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lahla died Sunday morning, July 3, at 2:25 o'clock. Mr. Lahla's death was caused by injuries received from lifting a heavy weight last Thursday. The deceased was born in Germany and was 58 years, 8 months of age at the time of his death. The family moved from North MO to Exeter and from that place to Monett, where Mr. Lahla had resided continuously since 1898. He has been engaged in gardening and stock raising and for awhile was proprietor of a restaurant here. He was honest in all his dealings and highly respected. Mr. Lahla has been twice married. He had five step-sons, the Beha brothers, who reside in Nebraska. His living children are Oscar Lahla, Mrs Gertie Dowd, and Miss Julia Lahla, of Lincoln, NE, Mrs. A Weisterman of Eureka Springs, AR, Mrs. Ras. Folger, of Monett. One daughter died several years ago. His second wife remains to mourn his loss. The funeral was held Wednesday morning July 6 at 9 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church. Fr. Kilkennhy had charge of the services. Research Note: She was the daughter of Chester Oliver and Della Marguerite (Hoyt) Higgs. On September 17, 1960 she was united in marriage to Milford Edwin Bridges and to this union two daughters were born. On June 17, 2005 she married Ralph Edgar Lamberson. Ralph and Betty grew up on neighboring farms and were life-long friends, even dating while in school. Some 45 years later, after life changes, they found each other again. Preceding her in death were her parents; one infant sister and one brother, Gary Joe Higgs. Betty received her elementary education in Clark School, Oklahoma School and Butterfield School all in Barry County, one year at Ozark, and then finished at Wheaton where she graduated from high school in 1957. She attended Kansas City Airline school and then Southwest Missouri State University. In 1999 she attended Oxford University, Christ College Summer School in Oxford, England. In the beginning of her working career Betty was employed at Rockaway Beach Resort Drugstore along with babysitting. She moved to Springfield, Missouri and worked at Kresge's Dime store on the square during Christmas. She worked for Colonial Dinner House, was Toy Girl at the Toy Box on the Plaza and Western Auto in Springfield. Most of her adult life was spent as a mother and homemaker, but kept busy volunteering as Girl Scout leader, PTA Officer, Home room Mother, Election board, school elections, Democrat committee registration, kitchen helper at Webb City High School, did custom sewing mostly for proms and Joplin Centennial, an adult library page for Webb City Library, and worked at JC Penney's Department Store. At age 40 she opened the Calico Corner Quilts in Webb City, where she taught quilting classes and later taught at Bernina of Joplin. For several years she taught quilting classes in the Continuing Education Department at MSSC in Joplin. She taught quilting for a total of 20 years. She organized the Town and Country Quilters Guild of the Joplin area, where she served as president and later as treasurer for four years. For six years she served on the Board of the Joplin Historical Society and Dorthea B. Hoover Museum and also was a volunteer. She was the events chairman for Clothing and Textiles Preservation and was co-chairman of 10 quilt shows and 4 special quilt displays. She coordinated two clothing and textile shows featuring, "100 years of wedding dresses". For three years she judged quilts at the Ozark Empire Fair and several area guild quilt show. Betty helped with hanging a gallery of antique quilts at a show and sale in Aspen, Colorado. She had several flea markets and antique booths in Joplin, Pierce City and Ozark. She prepared the papers for the National Register list for the Wheaton Depot. In 2007 she and her husband, Ralph co-authored the Wheaton Centennial book, "Wheaton Echoes" and helped organize the Wheaton Historical Society, spending almost two years in the restoration of the Wheaton Depot. He was employed by Time Life Insurance as a regional sales manager from where he retired. Ralph didn't like being idle, he was a doer, which led to him being involved in the Wheaton Historical Society and Depot Museum. He also enjoyed cooking, woodworking, traveling, working in the garden and tending his flowers. Ralph was a great dad and grandfather. Son of Warren Louis Lautaret and Jacqueline Waltrip. - Obit: Ned Roland Lautaret, 37, of New Orleans, LA, a native of Monett, died in a one vehicle traffic accident in Columbus, OH. He was a graduate of Clay Center, KS, high school and University of Delaware. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam conflict, serving in the US Navy.
