Research Note: She was the daughter of Carl and Agnes (Charles) Taggart. On October 18, 1987 she was united in marriage to R.H. Buck Lawson in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, who preceded her in death on January 28, 2010. Also preceding her in death were her parents; three sons, Ricky, David and Gary Strickland and one brother, Gene Taggart. Janiece received her education in Carnegie, Oklahoma and was a 1949 high school graduate. For several years she was an office manager for Schmidt Construction in Miami, Oklahoma. In high school she was the state's leading scorer in basketball in 1948-1949. Thirty-four years ago she moved from Oklahoma to Exeter to make her home. Laurie received her education in California and graduated from Galt High School. She attended San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, California and went on to receive her Bachelor Degree from Sacramento State University in Sacramento, California. Twenty-eight years ago, she moved to Cassville, Missouri from Lodi, California. She had previously worked as a cook and register clerk at Stage Stop in Butterfield, Missouri. On Dec. 5, 1948 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Bill Whitley, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death are her parents; brother, Gene Taggart; sister, Janiece; and grandson, Garet Whitley. Nadine is survived by her five sons, Blake Whitley and his wife, Debbie of Cassville, MO, Kevin Whitley and his wife, Carole of Inola, OK, Colin Whitley and his wife, Jackie of Seminole, OK, Brett Whitley and his wife, Nancy of Ada, OK, and Pat Whitley and his wife, Lisa of Durant, OK; 17 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. She began teaching English at Ft. Cobb, OK in the late 60's and moved to Sulphur, OK in the early 70's and taught High School Business, Accounting, Typing, and English classes until she retired in 1993. He received his bachelors degree in industrial arts from Carnegie College, attended Southwest State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma, and received his masters degree from North Texas College in Canyon, Texas. He was an Army veteran. He taught at the Air Force Base in Amarillo and was superintendent of schools in Alfalfa and Fort Cobb, Oklahoma. He was director of the skill center in Sulphur, Oklahoma, and began building until retirement. He was active in Boys Scouts of America and Rotary International.
