She leaves a spouse and one child. - Died of consumption, Dec. 31, 1896, Mrs. Ellen Armstrong, age 27 years, and on Saturday night, Jan. 2, 1897, the Lord saw fit to call her darling babe home to heaven, where it can ever be with its mother. She leaves a husband and one child, behind and a host of friends and relatives to morn her loss. She was an affectionate companion, a loving mother and a kind neighbor, liked by all who knew her. She professed faith in Christ about four years ago and united with the Church of God, of which she had since lived a member. SSW: Hazel Irene - Research Note: Walter Franklin Cullers was living at Rt. 1, Jenkins, MO, when he died. He was married and his wife was listed as Irene Kagarice Cullers. His father's name was William Butler Cullers and his mother was named Anne Jane Hathaway. The dates given match the dates on his stone. - Joplin Globe, Apr. 21, 1971 - JENKINS, MO - Mr. Cullers passed away at noon Tuesday at South Barry County Hospital where he had been a patient a few hours. He had been ill several months. Mr. Cullers was the son of the late Anna Jane Hathaway and William Butler Cullers. He moved to Jenkins as a child and has resided there his entire life. Survivors include his widow Irene Cullers; son Donald R. Cullers, KC; brother Harry Cullers, Johnson City, KS, and 4 grandchildren. Research Note: Cassville Republican, July 4, 1901 - McDowell News: On the 16th of June at Swallow Bluff on Flat Creek below McDowell, while in bathing, Bennie Dickenson, while trying to rescue a play mate, who was in danger of drowning, got strangled and was drowned. Bennie was thirteen years, eight months and 25 days old. He was a good boy, beloved by all who knew him. A father and mother, one brother and four sisters mourn his untimely and unexpected death. She was buried Jan. 10, 1917 in Stubblefield. - James Eubanks, age 27, married Mollie Maddox, age 17, on Oct. 17, 1895 in Barry Co., MO. W. D. Maddox, father of Mollie, gave consent. James is buried at Mineral Springs Cemetery. Son of William Eubanks and Matilda Jane Counts. - Cassville Republican, January 10, 1917 - Mrs. James Eubanks died at 12:25 o'clock Wednesday morning, January 9, at the family home north of Cassville, 1 1/2 mile, following an illness of three weeks of appendicitis and a thermal tumor. As the REPUBLICAN goes to press it is informed that the funeral is to be held Thursday afternoon at Star and interment made in the Stubblefield cemetery between McDowell and Jenkins. - Cassville Republican, January 17, 1917 - Mollie Maddox Eubanks was born at Neosho, March 8, 1879, died at her home near Cassville, January 9, 1918, after an illness of a few weeks of appendicitis and other troubles. She lived as a girl in Newton, Lawrence and Barry Counties, was married to James C. Eubanks at Jenkins in July 1896. To them eleven children were born, eight of whom are living, four sons and four daughters. Two died in infancy and one of the age of two years. The oldest child, Ezra, is a senior of the Cassville High school. The youngest child is a little two year old son. The funeral services were held at the Star School house near McDowell, January 10, conducted by Eld. J. S. McQueen. Interment was made in Stubblefield cemetery in the same locality. Mrs. Eubanks was in the prime of womanhood and her passing away has brought the deepest of grief to her devoted family and friends. She was a member of the Christian Church and an estimable woman. Julia Roark of McDowell, MO, gave the information. Wife of John R. Hogan. - July 11, 1912, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Mrs. Ona Hogan of this community departed this life June 30th, 1912. She was born in Franklin County, Virginia, Jan. 20th, 1826 being 86 at the time of her death. She was converted at the age of fifteen and lived a consistent Christian life until God seen fit to call her up higher. She was loved by all who knew her. She was a devoted mother. She leaves six children to mourn her departure, but we weep not as those who have no hope for we have hopes of meeting her up yonder when there will be no sorrow, heartaches, sickness, or death. Only one child was present at the funeral, Mrs. Julia Roark. George Hogan in Illinois, John in Okla., Allie Roark and Harriet Nelson in Lawrence County and Mary Jones in Indiana. Wife of John Turner Horner buried at Horner Cemetery. - A family history was told in 1942 by Professor John Turner Horner, to Eva Horner, his daughter, about Dr. John Turner Horner of Cassville, Missouri: As the story goes John wanted to marry a poor girl but his father, Spencer, wanted him to marry a girl with more wealth, Susannah Boen (maybe Bowen). On one occasion, John had stopped to visit with Susannah Boen. Spencer happened by and took John's horse, insuring a lengthy visit with Susannah. He married (1) Susannah "Susan" Boen 1846 in Johnson County, Arkansas. She was born Mar. 9, 1829 in Perry County, Tennessee, and died Apr. 10, 1913 in Cato, Barry County, Missouri, the daughter of Lewis Boen and Mary Hodge of Ozark, Johnson County, Arkansas. Their marriage was not a happy one. One day, and six children later, he came home and she hit him over the head with a broomstick. It reports his death was from drowning. - Cassville Republican, February 25, 1915 - A four year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Linn who lived in McDonald township was drowned in Flat Creek, Wednesday afternoon of last week. At the time when the sad incident occurred Mrs. Linn was at the creek gathering water cress, it is reported. She left the home with the child in the care of other members of the family. During her absence the child went to the creek but at different place than where the mother was located. The child's body was not found until about eight o'clock that night. Burial took place Friday at the Stubblefield Cemetery. - A child about 1 1-2 years old of Oliver Linn's, wandered away from its home and fell into Flat Creek and was drowned Tuesday evening of last week. Mrs. Linn had left her baby with two other children to go and get some water cress, when the little one tried to follow her and had to go about one-half mile before coming to the creek. The tragedy occurred near John Bennett's farm. - Note from James Royce Carney - The child in question in the scrapbook article relating to the drowning of Oliver Linn's son is William Gaylord Linn, born July 25, 1913 and died Feb. 17, 1915. She had been suffering from an attack of pneumonia fever but seemed to be improving until a few days before her death. She leaves a husband, three sons, and four daughters to mourn her passing away. The daughters are Mrs. Georgia Hoggett of Shell Knob, Mrs. Lottie Anderson living near, Mrs. Lona Suttles and Mrs. Emma Castor of Crane. All were at her bedside during her sickness except Floyd. His son's death certificate listed Martin's wife as Harriet Campbell, born in VA. - February 24, 1917, Saturday, Cassville Democrat - Martin Roark of near McDowell, was brought to the county farm, Tuesday, not as a charity but a pay patient, in order to give him more comfort in the way of a warmer room. He is 85 years old. - Martin Roark married Clara (Clarissa Matilda Baker) Horner on June 30, 1902 in Barry Co., MO. - Cassville Democrat, March 10, 1917 - Martin Roark died Thursday night, March 1, at the county farm where he had been taken on account of the even temperature and warmness of the building because of his age, last week. He died of infirmities attending old age, age 88 years, 1 month and 22 days. He was born in Clay County, Kentucky, January 8, 1829, where he resided until 1865, when he moved to Barry County and settled on Willow Branch not far from McDowell, where he continued his residence for many years, when he moved to Ozark township, where he lived until he came to the county farm. He had been married twice, his first wife having died, the last living. The children born of his marriage are: Mrs. Samantha Johnson of near McDowell, Mrs. Dona Cooper of Miami, Okla., Samuel Roark of New Mexico, Joel Roark of near McDowell, Thomas Roark of Monett and Columbus Roark of Texas. Mr. Roark was a very quiet and peaceable citizen and by his life had won the confidence and respect of all his acquaintances. He had been a member of the Baptist church for many years. The remains were conveyed by auto to the Stubblefield Cemetery east of McDowell, Friday, where interment was made. Mrs. Nancy Ruddick (mother) of Lean, MO was the informant. Nancy second married Stephen S. Ruddick. - March 25, 1915, Thursday, Cassville Republican - In memory of our neighbor and friend, Charles R. Stubblefield, of Leann, Mo., who was called to answer the summons from the one who doeth all things well. Charles was a Barry County boy, born on Flat Creek, March 30th, 1886 and died March 13, 1915, aged 28 years, 11 months and 13 days. Charles R. Stubblefield was a son of Edward and Nancy Stubblefield, who was a bright and prosperous young man, loved by all who knew him. Charles after reaching manhood, launched out for himself, finding employment in the mining districts. He was soon found to be a fit type of humanity for a higher position which placed him as a superintendent over the ore digger in the Joplin district. He was highly respected by men. He as many others have done, stayed too long, which resulted in the dreadful disease of miner's consumption. Charles left an evergreen of evidence as consultation to his death brothers and sisters and his dear old mother, Mrs. Ruddick, as to where he had wisely chosen his long resting place. Precious was our dear son, who has left us. Let us yes to forever more. But we hope to meet our loved one. On that bright and happy shore. Lonesome are the days, sad are the hours, since our dear one has gone. But oh, a brighter place than ours, in Heaven is now his own. Stubblefield carried a lame arm recently, caused by a horse bite. - Cassville Republican, November 5, 1914 - McDowell News: The body of Jim Stubblefield, a son of the late Edward Stubblefield, was buried by the side of his father and sister Saturday in the Stubblefield Cemetery amidst a number of relatives and friends. To the bereaved family and mother we extend our deepest sympathy. - Cassville Republican, November 12, 1914 - Death of J. M. Stubblefield: After an illness of two years from tuberculosis, J. M. Stubblefield, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1914, at the home of his sister, Mrs. C.C. Ellis, just south of town. Deceased was 30 years of age and had always been of sound health till a few years ago when he began work in the zinc mines in the Joplin field, where he, as did his brother, contracted tuberculosis. He bore his affliction unflinchingly and made a brave fight for his life. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Divorced. - Ouida's Obit - Ouida F. Stubblefield, 71, of Monett, died at 12:50 p.m. yesterday, June 9, 2003 at her home. Mrs. Stubblefield was born March 1, 1932, in Nocona, Texas, the daughter of W. D. and Ollie (Evans) Wilson. She was a certified medical technician at Monett Health Care Center before retiring, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Monett. Survivors include two sons; one daughter; two sisters, Marie Porter of the state of New Mexico and Kathy Jones of the state of South Carolina; 19 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Timothy. Had he been born in 1854 as this document reads he wouldn't have been old enough to have served in the Civil War. Had he been born in 1845 as his stone reads he wouldn't have been the age his death certificate reads that he was when he died. Funeral Home records listed cause of death as "old age?"
