WATTS, Helen (MOLOSKI) | Jan. 2, 1908 MO |
Feb. 28, 1973 | Research Note: Helen was the oldest of 6 children born to John Joseph and Julia (Jaster) Moloski. Born at the Moloski residence attached to the Pulaskifield General Store, she spent her early life devoted to family, church and community. As many from Pulaskifield did during the Depression, Helen went to Kansas City to find employment. She lived in the Strawberry Hill area, nearby to several close and extended family members. There she met Charley J. Watts, a man her family had trouble accepting. Beyond not being Catholic, he had been previously married, and to whom a son was born. They were married on Apr. 19, 1936 by a Justice of the Peace in nearby Monett, rather than in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church across the street from where she was born and raised. The couple moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where Helen would work for the Tension Envelope Company for several decades. As she grew older, dementia took over and she spent the last few years in a care facility. No children were born to Helen. - Charley was born Mar. 31, 1904 and died Sept. 4, 1988. Witt of Pierce City, MO, was the informant. - He was a son of Ferdinand and Mary (Ptach) Witt, both born Prussia. - Information provided by Jim Kutz: We are told that Henry was a small, quiet man that always had a mustache. He was a farmer with a few cows, chickens and pigs. His wife Frances was a large woman. A document was found behind a picture in the house of Joe and Clara Witt that shows that Henrick Witt made his First Communion in Pierce City, MO in 1886 at the age of 14. They lived on the farm where Tom (their great-grandson) and Mary Ann Durkin Witt now live. Their daughter Dorothy lived with her parents until the time of her death at the age of 39. She died at the dinner table of a heart attack that may have been caused by a goiter. Her mother ran to the neighbors for help, but, they could not save her. Dorothy was engaged to one of the Smalsey boys at the time of her death. Mary Elizabeth died as a small child during an epidemic. Lawrence was in the service at the time of Henry's death. His mother wrote several letters and tried to get him out of the service early to help with the farm. - Notes for Henry Witt | Death Certificate Census Phyllis Long Dates from Book-Past & Present Frank Hatton Photo Jim Pierce |
