Research Note: She was John and Maud Mary (Uren) Russell. She attended country school through the eighth grade and was a 1941 Ringsted High School graduate. On May 10, 1946 she was united in marriage to James W. Johnson in Los Angeles, California. They returned to Ringsted and made their home there for 37 years where she was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church. James preceded her in death on February 3, 1983. In August 1986 Marjorie married Rev. Neal Ahart. Following Neal's call from the Lord they lived in Emory, SD, Climbing Hill, IA, Cassville, MO, Hartley, IA and finally Alcester, SD. Neal preceded her in death on April 26, 2019. Marjorie then moved to Monett, Missouri where she lived at Oak Pointe Assisted Living and Memory Care until August 22, 2020 when she was called home to her Lord and Savior. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was 1964 graduate of Midway High School and a 1968 graduate of Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, Missouri. James taught social studies at Purdy, Exeter, Dadeville and Miller Schools. He also did some coaching on the side or as needed. His last time coaching was the Miller girls' softball team, he then retired in 2001. He enjoyed traveling and had visited 49 of the 50 states. He never did get the chance to visit North Dakota. He also enjoyed playing cards with friend, reading and watching sports, especially golf. James lived on a farm until 2005. He raised Angus and Gelbvieh cattle. After moving to Monett he knew his health was failing and moved to Springfield in 2019 to a new over 55 single family housing development. He enjoyed his new neighborhood and making new friends. He greatly enjoyed sitting outdoors visiting with his neighbors and watching the deer and turkeys in the back yard. James was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church on Stone's Prairie. He was also known as the "Nut who sold bolts." He enjoyed traveling his territory to visit his customers. On Jan. 15th 2006 he married Betty Hartung. Celebration of his life service will be at Northland Christian Church, Kansas City, MO, with a reception to follow on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 6:00 pm. Walter Meister of Monett, MO was the informant. - Cassville Democrat, March 22, 1934 - Mrs. Gabriele Meister, aged 87, died at her home five and one-half miles northwest of Purdy, Tuesday. Funeral services were conducted Friday with a short service at the Stone Prairie Lutheran church at 2:30 in the afternoon. Services were conducted by Reverend Strassen, pastor of the church. Interment was in the church cemetery under the direction of Blankenship funeral services. Mrs. Meister had lived on the farm where she died for 42 years. She was born in Perry County, Missouri. Her husband passed away about ten years ago. Mrs. Meister is survived by eight sons, Theodore and Walter of the home neighborhood, Harold of San Antonio, Tex., Ben and Tony of McAllen, Tex., and Will of Muskogee, Okla. and three daughters. Mrs. Amelia Kopp of Tacoma, Wash., Mrs. Alma Speaker of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Mrs. Martha Selvedge of Purdy. She is survived also by 28 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Meister was one of the county's very best citizens and was loved by all who knew her. She reared an excellent family of children, all of who attended her during her closing days. The youngest of the six children, she lived in Purdy until graduating from high school in 1948, and heading off to what was then Missouri State Teacher's College (now MSU) to pursue a teaching degree in home economics. After graduation, she taught for one year in Lockwood, Missouri. Her high school sweetheart, Jerome (J.B.) Nations, was off at that time participating in the Korean War. She was united in marriage to J. B. Nations on June 3, 1953, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stones Prairie, MO. Following a brief period of living in Kansas City and Monett, the couple made their home in Cassville where J.B. became a State Farm agent. Verna Mae taught school in Exeter briefly before quitting to devote her time to helping with the agency and raising the children. Research Note: Daughter of the late Ludwig and Johanna (Bauer) Scotvold. Darlene was a graduate of Monett High School and was a lifelong Lutheran and member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett. She was a member of the Quilting group and volunteered with the Braille workers at Trinity Lutheran Church. Throughout her working years, Darlene worked for Vaisey Bristol Shoe Company and then for many years, she worked with her husband, as they owned and operated Nowak Refrigeration and Heating. In her spare time, she enjoyed making and donating her quilts, gardening and fishing. She and her husband enjoyed spending time in Texas in the winters as well. On Apr. 4, 1959 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett, Darlene Scotvold and Stanley W. Nowak were united in marriage. They were blessed with two children and many wonderful memories made together before his passing on Jan. 4, 2024. Survivors include her daughter; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her twin-sister; one brother-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of extended family and friends that loved her dearly. Research Note: He was son of the late Carl Morris Painter and Leona Esther (Laney) Painter. Bob accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at eight years old and was baptized at Barnett's Crossing. He attended the grade school in Washburn, MO and 8th grade in Shawnee, KS, graduating from Wheaton High School with the class of 1958. In November of that same year, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy in Kansas City. He was sent to the USNTC in Great Lakes, IL for bootcamp. Bob completed two tours on the U.S.S. Henrico in the Orient. During his tours, Bob worked as an Engineman. He was honorably discharged at Treasure Island, San Francisco in December of 1961. Bob had worked for Jumping Jacks, EFCO and ultimately retired from Schreiber's in Mt. Vernon in 2001 where he had worked in Maintenance. Bob was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett, where he had attended since 1976. He was also a member, current Commander for the last four years and 2019-2020 Legionnaire of the year of the American Legion Post 91. He thoroughly felt honored to be a member of the Honor Guard for the American Legion and the V.F.W. On November 12, 1976 in Monett, Bob married Mary Jane "Janie" Fleming. They have been blessed with over forty-five years of wonderful memories made together.
