Dec. 3, 1857 | Research Note: Mary Gentry's Note: William Stinnett is my great great grandfather. Son of John Stinnett and Catherine Hunter. William Stinnett married Jane C. Ridings on June 18, 1848 in Adams Co. IL. The birth year should be 1815 but I didn't know at the time I put the headstone there. He was one of the first to be buried in the Stinnett Cemetery, his brother Henry Stinnett donated the land (1.7 acre) for a cemetery. Two of William's children are buried next to him, George Washington Stinnett and Mary Ann (Stinnett) Shepherd. - Obit for Jane - Funeral services for Mrs. Jane C. Stinnett, 94 years old, who died at 5:40 o'clock yesterday afternoon at her home, 424 South Cox avenue, will be held at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Frank-Sievers chapel. The Rev. J, W. Famuliner will conduct the services. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mahala Fowler and Mrs. Martha Tucker, and a son, Charles Stinnett, all of Joplin; a step-daughter, Mrs. Emma Samples, and fourteen grandchildren. She was a member of the Rebekah lodge and six members of Joplin branches of the organization will serve as honorary pallbearers.
