Text | Our beloved mother, Mary Matilda, Lillis Robertson, was born in Tennessee, March 21, 1834. Her parents moved to Arkansas an settled in Newton county in 1836 the year in which that territory became a state. At the age of 14, the family moved to Newton County, Mo., where she lived until a few years ago.
Our father, L. H. Robertson, who died in 1904, and mother were married April 3, 1854. Six children were born to them, all of whom are living, except one son, W. H. Robertson. At the death of mother's death, July 23, 1916, she had 14 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. She was much attached to the old homestead in Newton County where she lives so long and where the children were born and grew to manhood and womanhood. After she became old and feeble she made her home with her son, J. A., on the farm near Purdy where she received every attention which love could bestow upon her. We believe that no mother ever received more earnest, and affectionate attention from the member of a large family than was given to her all of which she realized and appreciated. We desire especially to say that her granddaughter's the daughters of J. A. Roberson, gave her the tenderest and most loving care we ever knew loving hands to give anyone. They surely shall have their reward from the Giver of every good and precious gift. Mother was converted in 1865 and lived the life of the practical Christian. Never did the suffering leave her door unattended, never did the hungry leave her door unfed. She was lovingly devoted to her children and her greatest pleasure was their prosperity and well being. Her devotion to her family was ideal, beyond description. We were as certain of her thought and her love as we were of life itself. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Francis Goodnight, using the Scripture, "She did what she could", after which her body was laid to beside that of our beloved father to await the resurrection day. Her children: J. A. Robertson, Dr. S. J. Robertson, Mary J. Herod, Martha Granger, Nancy Fox. |
