Research Note: Son of Rev. William Franklin Moore and Harriet Elizabeth Patton. W. P. Moore, age 23, married Nannie Tiner, age 23, on May 1, 1901 in Benton Co., AR. - W. P. Moore - Death by Accident - The night of Sept. 12, about 11 o'clock, Will Anglin of Jane came to Pineville after the Coroner and Sheriff, reporting that a man had been found dead in the road near the head of the west branch of the Little Missouri creek, and that the same was believed to be D. L. M. Stinnett, representing the McGregor-Noe Hardware Co., of Springfield. The Coroner, Dr. Edelen and Deputy Sheriff, J. N. Brown, at once repaired to the scene and on arrival found that it was the body of W. P. Moore, a man about 30 years of age, a school teacher who resided in that area. He was in a one-horse buggy, presumably on his way home. He had an open pocket knife in one hand and a lot of hazel nuts in the left when found. It is presumed that he was cracking these nuts with the knife, and a lurch of the buggy jerked his hand up, the knife entering the left breast cutting the lower part of the heart, causing instant death. He fell from the buggy into the road face down. He leaves a wife and several children to mourn his loss. Mr. McGregor, of the hardware firm, came here at once and was overjoyed to find that it was not Mr. Stinnett who was dead. (Rachel Bunch told Agnes Lawson on Oct. 13, 1985 that the family always suspected foul play.) | Headstone Donna Cooper AR Marriage Index Notes News Item Agnes Lawson |
