DEWITT, Betty Sue (PATTERSON) | July 11, 1929 Hereford Deaf Smith Co., TX |
Aug. 12, 2023 Washburn, Barry Co., MO |
SSW: Vernon L. - Research Note: Daughter of Perry Alfred and Hattie Belle (Branch) Patterson. Sister of Perry, Paschall and Preston Patterson. Betty Sue Patterson, age 17, married Vernon Leroy DeWitt, age 21, on Sep. 30, 1946 in Cassville, Barry Co., MO. Hattie Belle Patterson, mother of Betty Sue, gave consent. We rejoice that Betty Sue is once again whole. There is no more pain, lack of sight or hearing. After living in Texas and Armijo, New Mexico her family came to McDonald County in 1943 when she was 14 years old. There she met the love of her life, Vernon Dewitt. Soon after their marriage in 1946, they purchased their farm in Crackerneck Hollow where they farmed and were blessed with two little girls. In 1954 they moved to Hobbs, New Mexico and were blessed with another baby girl. There they raised their family. Betty was a homemaker, Sunday School teacher, a girl scout leader, and sold Avon while Vernon worked in the oil fields. Any time that the rig was down in the summer they would pack up and come to Missouri so they could help their parents with their gardens and putting up hay. In 1969 they moved back to Missouri and built their home in Crackerneck. Betty and Vernon always had a large garden that they gladly shared. Many of their grandchildren learned to drive in the fields of Crackerneck. Betty Sue was again a Sunday School teacher and Vernon became a deacon at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She took piano lessons so she could help out when needed at the church. She also took painting lessons that she really enjoyed and became quite good. Later in life Betty was the caregiver for her mother, her mother-in-law, her husband, and then her father. Betty leaves behind three daughters, seven grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was the beacon of light that brought the family back home and it didn't matter how many came at the same time, she was happy to see them all. She taught her children compassion, moral values, and to be a servant to others. Stone photo on Findagrave. | Fohn Funeral Home L. DILLIN, John Robert | Sept. 23, 1820 TN |
Feb. 23, 1871 MO |
SSW: Robert A. Dillin (Son) - Research Note: 1870 Census, Missouri, McDonald, Fox - Post Office: Pineville - John R. Dillon age 49, farmer, born TN; Mary, age 40, born TN; Robert, age 11, born MO; Adeline, age 9, born MO. - Kayra Dillon's notes: John Robert Dillon was born 1820 in Tennessee. He was married to Marinda B. ? about 1842 as his first son, Benjamin F. Dillon was born Oct. 1843 in Kentucky. (Probably in Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky, although we have not proved this yet). John R. and Marinda then removed to Ripley County, Missouri where they are found on the 1850 census. John R. was a sheriff in Ripley. After Marinda's death John next married Mary White (born January 20, 1829 in Tennessee) and they are found on the 1860 census for Vineyard Township, Lawrence, Missouri. By 1870, they are on the census for McDonald County, Missouri, with a son Robert Dillon, born 1859 in Missouri; and a daughter Keziah Adeline Dillon, born 1861 in Missouri. I believe that John R. had at least four siblings: i. James T. Dillon born 1813 in TN (Also found on the 1850 Ripley County, Missouri census); ii. Keziah Dillon born August 16, 1814 in TN and married Zechariah Morris on 13 Feb 1833 in Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky and died in Greene County, Missouri, in 1891. iii. Benjamin P. Dillon, born ? , married Martha Morris (born 3 July 1810) in 1832 in Bowling Green, Warren Co., Missouri and died in 1833, and iv. Mary Ann Dillon who married Robert W. Hawkins on 11 Sept. 1839 in Bowling Green, Warren Co., Kentucky. I am currently working to prove this sibling theory. Lastly, I believe John R.'s father was John Dillon born in North Carolina. Very possible this could be John Dillon from Tyrell Co., North Carolina, son of James and Keziah Dillon. Uncle may have been James Dillon found on the 1850 census for Logan County, Kentucky. | Headstone Donna Cooper Census Phyllis Long Note Kayra Dillon |
