BARNES, Nancy (BUTTRAM) Jan. 17, 1830
IN
Nov. 4, 1910
Sugar Creek,
Barry Co., MO
Research Note: Daughter of Jacob Buttram and Elizabeth Burnett both born KY. Al L. Barnes of Seligman, MO was the informant. Wife of Lewis Barnes. - November 10, 1910, Cassville Republican - Mrs. Nancy Barnes, wife of Lewis Barnes, answered her death call Thursday night Nov. 3rd, near the midnight hour. She was silently called and nothing in truth, could prevent her going. She has lived in this world for almost eighty years and that her departure has occurred a dark shadow sweeps over the hearts of her many relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed within the home but our loss is Heaven's gain. She was born in Williamsburg, Indiana, Jan. 17 in the year 1831 and came to Arkansas with her parents when she was young, later moved to Missouri where she has resided ever since and was united in marriage to Lewis Barnes, March 15, 1866, professed her faith in Christ and has led a good Christian life from that time up to the present when she was called to the better land. She leaves an afflicted husband and four children, U. L., J. M., J. A., and Mrs. Minnie Pippin, to mourn her loss. There is nothing more grievous than to lay an earthy body beneath the sod for we know their faces are to be seen no more until we see them in Heaven but may the sad hearts be smoothed for 'tis but the fading ways of a beautiful flower that awaits to bloom on the resurrection morn. Since she has gone through the Golden Gates, we know there is a way for us all in the same bright and glorious pathway. She has trod in the Eternal Throne and we should thereby strive to prepare to meet the dear ones gone on before where all are welcomed. She has been a good and cheerful mother and grandmother and was always ready to lend her servitude when occasions called and was really a mother to all the county round in case of sickness. She has been a sufferer for a number of years and was a patient sufferer and showed during her long illness and gentle submissive and Christian like fortitude which characterized her life as known to all her associates and friends in her loss the county loses one of its best citizens. The remains were laid to rest in the Roller Cemetery, Saturday, Nov. 5, near the noon hour. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. P. H. Hodge. And now to think her place is no longer occupied in her home fills the hearts of all who know her with grief and sorrow. Life and death are like the dew drops from Heaven, created but to fade away. We desire to think the people most sincerely for their kindness during her illness. We should all consider what death is and think it as only the parting way of a dear one from earth to Heaven where death never comes, true banners to wave and the beautiful flowers ne'er weeps o'er a grave. BILLINGTON, David Bruce Mar. 20, 1946
Oildale
Kern Co., CA
July 26, 2024
At Home,
Jacket,
McDonald Co., MO
Research Note: Son of the late Carl Billington and Lorene (Phillips) Billington. David was raised in Bakersfield and then in the Los Angeles area, where he attended high school. David spent two decades working for Global Marine Oil as an oil exploration driller, with one of the drills he operated on the Glomar Challenger exploration ship now being on display in the Smithsonian's Natural History Museum in Washington, DC. During his time with Global Marine he traveled to and worked in dozens of countries and spent time living in Peru, Columbia, Spain's Canary Islands and Ireland. He later worked as a consultant for directional drilling for Western Well Tool. As a child growing up in central and southern California, David dreamed of one day owning a farm, and in Apr. 1975 he and his family moved from Ireland to the farm on Big Sugar Creek in Jacket where he would spend the rest of his life. An extremely hard and dedicated worker, at different times he raised beef cattle, raised broiler hens for Hudson Foods and later Simmons, and operated a Grade A dairy on the farm, while also finding time to serve on the board of Barry County Farm Bureau. He also raised his four sons of the farm, where he taught them the value of hard work and inspired in them an enduring work ethic. He was united in marriage to Michelle Vernon on Nov. 28, 1991 at the farm in Jacket, where she worked with him to cultivate a large vegetable garden every year and tend to the livestock. Shortly after moving to Jacket, David began attending the former Sugar Creek Baptist Church, where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized in the waters of Big Sugar Creek on a cold winter day. He and Michelle later joined Prairie Hill Baptist Church. In his limited spare time, David enjoyed deer hunting, classic cars (especially those from the 1950s), collecting antiques, spending time at the creek, looking for arrowheads, and was an avid reader. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his oldest son, John Wesley Billington, and his sister Linda Billington. Survivors include his wife, Michelle, of the home; sons: Mike (Starla) of Pea Ridge, Steve (Mary) of Galena, Ks., and Jeff (Caio) of Rockville, Md.; brother Mark (Marty) Billington of Sierra Madre, Calif.; sister Leslie (Jesse) Morris of Chico, Calif.; brother-in-law Kelly (Nancy) Vernon of Huntsville, AR; sisters-in-law Sharon Rice of Colorado Springs, CO, Lynn Vernon of Aberdeen, NC, and Irene Vernon of Nagsinamo, Philippines; five granddaughters; and nine great-grandchildren.
