SSW: Stella A. - Research Note: Son of Samuel Early and Perthenia Oaks. - Bro. John Samuel Early was born in Illinois, Aug. 28, 1875. With his parents he went to Kansas, when about one year old, from there they moved to Missouri where he lived the greater part of his life. About four months ago he moved with his family to Cardelia, Okla. where he met a tragic death, Aug. 21, 1915. In trying to save a burning straw stack, he fell into the fire and was burned to death. He was the son of Samuel and Perthenia Early. He was married to Stella Davidson, Dec. 10, 1897. To them were born eight children, three of whom preceded him. He united with the Church of the Brethren about fourteen years ago, and was elected to the deacon's office in 1910. Services in the Shoal Creek church, Mo., by Bro. J. H. Argabright, assisted by Bro. A. L. Boyd of Cordelia, Okla., who accompanied the family with the remains to Fairview, Mo. Interment at Rocky Comfort, Mo. He was the great Uncle of Janice Jones and this is what she sent to be posted: I don't know very much, didn't even know he existed until recent years as I was only 10 when my Grandmother died. We made 2 trips to the cemetery looking for his grave. I know he was the oldest of the children and was 17 when he died. I understand he died in Neosho of meningitis but they were living in Rocky at that time. The family then moved to the Twelve Corners/Jacket area and the girls were all reared on the farm there. On November 24, 1958 they were united in marriage in Wichita, Kansas. Son of the son of Ernest and Waive (Farrington) Ellison. Preceding Kenneth and Letha in death was one daughter Tammy Kay Ellison; their parents; Kenneth's five brothers, Merle and Bill Cox and Junior, Richard and Wayne Ellison and two sisters, Marge Huston and Thelma Mae Ellison and Letha's three brothers, Dean, Elmer and Garold Parker and one sister Alta Danner. Kenneth graduated high school in 1957 at Rocky Comfort. He served in the United States Army National Guard. He was a self-employed carpenter and spent most of his life in southwest Missouri. Embrey of Neosho, Newton Co., MO was the informant on the death certificate. - Daughter of Joseph Jackson Embrey, Sr. and Amelia Ann Blythe. The death of Miss Amelia Ann Embrey, 79, occurred Friday morning, Apr. 25, at the home of her nephew, H. G. Embrey, 433 West McCord St., with whom she made her home. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Baptist church in Rocky Comfort and burial made in the cemetery there. Miss Embrey, until last fall, had made her home with a niece, Mrs. Ollie Harris, in Wichita, but when the Harris family moved to Los Angeles, she came to Neosho to be with her nephew. Her health was fairly good on up until her death. Her advanced age and a sudden weakening of her heart caused her death. She is the last of her immediate family and is survived by nephews and nieces as follows: H. G. Embrey of Neosho, Robert, Roy, Clyde, and Ray Embrey of Stark City, John Embrey, living in OK, Walter, Page, and William Embrey of Rocky Comfort, Mrs. Ollie Harris of Los Angeles, Mrs. Lena Reese and Mrs. Thelma Reese of Stark City. Matches the stone for Walter Embrey. - Funeral Rites for Oscar P. Embrey, 62 - Funeral services for O. P. Embrey, who died Friday at his home, were held Sat., Feb. 10, at the Baptist church in Rocky Comfort. Rev. G. T. Kelley, assisted by Rev. John Carlin, officiated. Burial was made in the Rocky Comfort cemetery under direction of the Williams funeral home of Goodman. Oscar Page Embrey, son of Blythe and Emma Embrey, was born Aug. 23, 1882, at the old home place where he died Feb. 9, 1945, at the age of 62 years. With the exception of a few years, he spent all his life on the same place. Mr. Embrey had been in poor health for the past six years but bore his pain with great patience and no complaint. The courage with which he faced his suffering was an example for everyone. His is survived by two brothers, Walter and Bill Embrey; and a sister-in-law, Blanche Embrey, of the home; three nieces, Mrs. Ernest Love of Rocky Comfort, Mrs. Helen Pogue of Stella and Lana Embrey of the home; and two nephews, Ensign Bill Embrey and S 2-sc Bob Embrey of the U. S. Navy, who are both in the Pacific area. Embrey, who for many years lived near Rocky Comfort, died at his home January 3, of flu and pneumonia. He was born July 14, 1846. Age 82 years, 5 months and 11 days. He was married to Emma Kelsay, fifty-two years ago. To this union five children were born, three of them surviving. Mr. Embrey united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church some fifty years ago. He was a soldier in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He was a good man and lived a consistent Christian life. Funeral services were conducted at Rocky Comfort, on Friday afternoon, January 4, by Rev. Chas. Vanzandt. April spelled Apirl on the stone. - Wheaton Journal, December 20, 1928 - Sidney Ellen Ethridge was born in Owen County, Indiana, April 30, 1851 and died December 7, 1928 at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 7 days. She was married in 1871 to William Bullard. To this union were born two children, one dying in infancy. One survives, Mrs. --- E. Allman of Fairview, where she made her home. Her husband preceded her in death in 1879. In 1848 she united with the Christian Church at Bethpage, Mo. In 1883 she was married to Louis Ethridge. To this union was born one child, Mrs. A. J. Hance, of Fairview; four step-children survive her, Robert, Lonzo, Amos and Pearlie Ethridge and one step-daughter, Mrs. Spicie Bruner; eight grand children and thirteen great grand-children and a host of other relatives and friends are left to mourn her loss. She was a loving companion, mother and a friend to all. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. S.
