Text | Another home has been made very sad by a visit of the death angel, who claimed an excellent wife, mother, citizen and neighbor. She believed that "every word of God is pure; he is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him." She trusted in Him and will be blessed with eternal life and happiness and will be a beacon light for those left on earth to welcome them into the Holy City.
Mrs. Smith was born and reared in Barry County and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Swiger former residents of near Purdy and a sister of the late Rev. J. A. Swiger of Purdy. She and Rev. C. M. Smith of near Exeter were married many years ago and eight children survive the mother, who are: Bert and Willard, who are studying for the ministry at William Jewell College, Liberty, W. Holt Smith, who is also studying for the ministry at Rochester, N. Y., Mrs. Elmun Thomas, Mrs. L. M. Davidson and Mrs. W. B. Smith of Monett, Mrs. Ed Bridgman of Wichita, Kans., and Miss Violet Smith of St. Louis. She died Wednesday morning March 10, 1920 at the home near Exeter, of a complication of diseases and after an operation, aged 60 years. Her beautiful Christian life is worthy of imitation by her loved ones. Rev. J. T. Brattin conducted funeral services at the Baptist church in Exeter, Thursday, March 11, where a large assemblage of relatives and friends gathered to pay the last tribute of love and respect to a good moman and citizen. The remains were interred in the Maplewood cemetery at Exeter. |
