George met Mary Mae Martin of Pierce City, MO while he was working there on the railroad. They were married Feb. 10, 1872 in Sarcoxie, MO. George and Mary raised five children: Erva, May, Christopher Columbus, George Henry Jr. and Daniel Boone. - Death Certificate: He was 83 years, 4 months, and 5 days old. Son of John Gemmecke born Germany. Mother not listed on the death certificate. C. C. Gemmecke was the informant. This stone is broken off from the base and on the ground. His wife was Mary Ann Robinette. Civil War Veteran: He applied for his pension in 1906, Served from VA, Infantry Division, Co., G, Benton Regiment, CSA. He was captured at Gettysburg on July 5, 1963 and sent to Point Lookout, MD, exchanged on Feb. 13, 1865. After the war, he lived in Lee Co., VA before coming to AR. - "The First Century of Seligman, MO" - Freeling, who had fought with Robert E. Lee at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, had settled before the war on a large farm located about five miles SE of Seligman and across the state line in Benton Co., AR. Freeling and his family cleared the land, planted crops, began raising live stock and later established a thriving nursery business. The point on the nearby Frisco Railroad from which Freeling shipped his nursery stock was at one time named Osborne, AR. Freeling and Mary had six children who are William, Amos, Samuel, Nancy, Sarah and Mrs. N. H. Tracy of Monett. Their daughter, Nancy, was married to Mr. C. E. Mrs. Osborne was very old and suffered most the past few years of her life. - November 6, 1913, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Big Springs News: Grandma Osborne died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Stapleton Wednesday morning, about 5:30 o'clock, of old age. Skelton was called to the funeral of her grandfather Wilse Perkins near Seligman, MO, last Wednesday. He was well and hearty for supper, Tuesday night. Began to complain about midnight and was a corpse by 7:30 o'clock. He was in his 93 year. The casket in which he was buried was made from walnut grown on the farm. The lumber had been sawed for 25 years. The tree from which it came was trimmed by him when a small bush. Research Note: Merit Perkins married Sarah Sons on Oct. 3, 1880 in Barry Co., MO. - Cassville Republican, July 23, 1914 - Seligman News: Mrs. Merrit Perkins passed away the latter part of last week. Mrs. Perkins was one of our old and respected citizens and leaves a family and many friends to mourn her loss. Burial was made Tuesday in their home cemetery. - July 23, 1914, Thursday, Cassville Republican - The funeral services of Mrs. Mary Perkins who died Wednesday of last week were held Thursday conducted by Rev. Clanton. Interment was made at the family cemetery near Seligman. The deceased was a daughter of the late James Sons and was born in Hancock County, Tenn., Nov. 17, 1852. In 1880 she was married to Merit Perkins. To this union were born four children. They are Wilburn, James, and Luther Perkins and Mrs. Lena Wallace. Early in life she professed faith in Christ and lived a consistent Christian life. For a number of years she had resided in the vicinity of Seligman and enjoyed the esteem and respect of her acquaintance. - Her death certificate names James Sons as her father and her mother as Matilda Church. James Robertson of Seligman, MO was the informant. His first wife was Mary Rebecca Burk. - Linda Skelton Corbin gives his birth date as Dec. 2, 1846 on his Civil War page, with parents born in KY. The military headstone was ordered on Dec. 30, 1937 by Floyd E. Fawver, Seligman, MO and shipped on Mar. 17, 1938 to James Robertson, Seligman, MO. - Pvt., Co. E, 43rd MO Inf. - According to stories told by Thomas Jefferson Robertson’s sister - Lucy Jane (Robertson) Oder, their mother (Nancy P. Wilson) died while the father (William Henry Robertson) and older brothers (including Thomas) were off fighting in the Civil War. She and her younger siblings buried their mother on the farm (at Golden). Lucy was age 13 and was in charge until her father came home from the war. Family tradition from several family members indicates that, "T.J. (Thomas Jefferson Robertson) was uneducated, but smart; he invented the quick setting monkey wrench and had it patented but let the patent run out and lost the royalties. He invented a street sweeper and never had it patented so the Elgin Company took over his idea and sold it.
