Headline OLD TIME SHELL KNOB WOMAN DIES

MRS. JOEL WHISMAN VICTIM OF CANCER AT AGE OF 56 YEARS;

BORN IN TEXAS
Text Mrs. Joel Whisman, died at their home near Shell Knob, last Friday night, following an illness extending over the past few months with cancer of the stomach. Sarah Ledgerwood was born in Hill county, Texas. June 9,1873, came to Barry county with her parents, Wm Ledgerwood and wife when one year old, died of cancer of the stomach. Nov.22,1929 at 1:20 a.m. at the age of 56 years, 5 months and 13 days at her home at Shell Knob.

She was married to Joe Whisman Oct. 13,1894. Eight children were born of this union, Grover and Leon dying in infancy. Those who survive are Mrs. Minnie Clark and Mrs. Verda Lunch of Shell Knob, Mo., Amos Whisman of Seminole, Ok., and Miss Gertrude and Ida at home. Besides her children she leaves her husband, aged father, two brothers. S.T. ledgerwood of Prairie Grove, Ark. G.C. Ledgerwood of Shell Knob, Mo., and two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Henbest of Washburn, and Mrs. Geo. Alexander of Seminole, Okla., also a host of relatives and friends who mourn her departure.

She was sick about 5 weeks and suffered intensely but bore her suffering patiently. She became a member of the Church of Christ Sept.10, 1887, at the age of 14 years and lived a devoted Christian life.

All her brothers and sisters and children were present during her sickness and attended the funeral which was conducted at the Shell Knob Church of Christ by Bro. G.G. Cottrell and interment made in the Painter cemetery under the direction of the Horine Funeral Services.

She was a kind and loving wife, mother, sister and daughter, her every act was to do good at all times and all will sadly miss her. The Democrat joins the many friends of the Whisman family in extending sincere sympathy over their sever loss.
