SSW: Flossie M. (Harmon) (Springer) Strohfeld (his wife) - Research Note: James Elijah Springer was a son of Lemuel Allen Springer and Mary Lillian Thompson. He was the second of their 8 children and my mother's brother. On Sep. 22, 1922 he married Flossie May Harmon, daughter of Henderson Harmon and Canna Marie String. They had three children: Lola Marie (Osa grave #477), Lloyd (1926-1971) and an infant who died at birth. He was diabetic for several years prior to his death. His death certificate reports the cause of death as pulmonary edema as a result of an acute insulin reaction. He also had a cellulites of his left hand and forearm for a few weeks prior to his death, which undoubtedly made his diabetes more difficult to control. He died on his birthday in 1938 and lived at the time in Buck Prairie, where he farmed. Burial occurred on Jan. 7, 1938. His widow married C. W. Strohfeld on Mar. 20, 1942 in Mt Vernon and she died June 3, 1953 in the Aurora Hospital of a stroke. She is buried next to James but listed under the name Strohfeld. Grave #476. Headstone

Flossie was known to her family and friends by her nickname, "Sweet". (I called her Aunt Sweet). Excerpt from Thomas' obit: Thomas J. Swaffar died Feb. 18, 1936 at Purdy, MO, of a complication caused by a fall on the ice Feb. 1. His age was 80 years, six months and two days. He was born Aug. 16, 1855, near Calhoun, TN, moved to Barry Co, MO in 1874 and has lived in and around Purdy for 52 years. At the age of 26 years he married Isabelle Hemphill at Calhoun, TN. To this union four children were born, of which three survive: Arthur Boyd and Thomas Neil of Purdy, Mrs. Myrtle Belle Bradley of Cassville, MO. Etta deceased in infancy. The wife deceased in 1889.
