Daughter of Claude Jesse Berry and Sarah I. Wagnon. At the time of her passing, she was living in her homeland of Aurora at her loving home of recent years, the Hudson House, where she was cared for with boundless love from those who became her extended family. Her beloved husband, Bill, preceded her in death in 1993. Their beautiful marriage of 62 years was blessed by a devoted and loving son, Jack Melton, who brought them great joy and pride. In 2003, Jack preceded her in death in Phoenix, Arizona. Edna, one of five daughters born to Claude and Sarah Berry, grew up in Aurora. Her sisters, Iona Gillmore, Madge Perriman, Frankie Hilton, and Maggie Sweeney preceded her in death. Edna was a teacher by profession, receiving her teaching certificate at an early age. She always delighted in her students, including Senator Emory Melton, brother to Bill Melton, who would go on to become her husband. Bill and Edna initially met after Bill's offer to drive her home one snowy afternoon upon picking up his brother, Emory, from school. Her first teaching experience was at the Star School in McDowell. SSW: Malinda O'Banion - Research Note: He was the son of Alfred O'Banion born KY and Elizabeth Ann Collins born VA. He first married Malinda Rickman on Apr. 2, 1865 in Greene Co., MO, and second Ellen Moore. - Cassville Republican, Thursday, Aug. 10, 1916 - James Elbert O'Banion was born in Cumberland County, Ky., March 20, 1842. His family moved to Greene County, Missouri, when James E. was about 15 years old. When the Civil War broke out in 1860 young O'Banion first joined the Home Guards, later joined the Union army and did service in the famous John S. Phelps regiment and in the 14th Mo., serving about four years before peace was declared. After the war closed he spent one year in what was then Indian territory and then located in Stone County where he lived for a time. Later he moved to Ozark township south of Aurora where the family lived for 30 years. In 1912, he bought the J. J. Wallen farm east of Cassville, and moved there. About two years ago he sold the farm and moved to town where he lived until he passed away. He was twice married, four children being born to each marriage. His second wife, to whom he was married in Lawrence County in 1889 and the eight children survive him. They are: Mrs. Veda Anderson, Aurora; Alfred, Aurora; Albert, Portland, Ore.; Chas., Miami, Ariz., of the first marriage: Will of Cassville; Floyd of Arizona; Wayne and Eulah at home of the second marriage. Kansas birth records give Orval Charles Perkins, born Nov. 15, 1896 in Crawford Co., KS. Father, Clarence Newton Perkins, age 23, and Mother, Zerba Nettie Barton, age 21. There is a stone at findagrave.com at Woodlawn Cemetery, Indianola, Vermillion Co., IL, with Lovisa born 1841, died 1883, Zerba born 1874, died 1949, Clarence, and Maude born 1864 and died 1891, all Perkins and sharing the same stone. Clarence has birthdate 1873 with no death date. Zerba died in 1949.
