LAWSON, Margaret A. | May 22, 1851 | Mar. 21, 1872 | Inscription: "Dau. of J. M. and D. C. Lawson" - Research Note: Margaret A. Lawson was the daughter of Jeremiah Lawson and Dicy C. (or S.) Ellis who were married Oct. 26, 1840 in McMinn Co, TN. In the 1870 census Jeremiah and Dicy with their children including Margaret A., age 18, were registered in the 3rd Civil District, Bradley Co., TN. In the 1880 Census Jeremiah and Dicy lived in Kings Prairie Township, Barry Co., MO. I am unable to find Margaret in the 1880 census, and it appears from the photograph that the date of death on the stone could read 1872. Further, I believe that the Mary Lawson in grave #447 is her grandmother. Grave #446. | Photo Stefanie Forester Census TN Marriage Records Jim L. Wilson |
LAWSON, Mary (CAMPBELL) | Abt. 1781 | Nov. 23, 1882 | Inscription: "Aged 101 yrs., 9 mos." Note: Mary Lawson was the mother of Matilda Lawson Ellis, (see Osa Cemetery grave #133). Her year of birth based on the ages shown for her in the various census records is calculated to be between 1785 and 1800. The age shown on her stone would make her birth date Feb. 23, 1781, earlier than any of these records. In the 1880 Federal Census she was residing in the home of James and Matilda Culton in Pierce Township, Stone Co., MO where she was listed as "mother", age 95 years and birth place Virginia. She was described as being "very feeble". I believe this is the same Mary Lawson found in the 1870 Federal Census living in the 3rd Civil District, Bradley Co., TN next door to Jeremiah and Dicy Lawson (see grave #446). In that census her age was given as 70 years and birthplace as Virginia. More research is needed before I can conclude that this is the same Mary Lawson found in the 1850 Federal Census with husband Richard in the 23rd subdivision, McMinn Co., TN, where her age is shown as 56 years and his as 60 years.
