She was a wonderful combination of warmth, kindness, laughter, and love. She touched the heart and soul of everyone she met. Carol played a vital role as a grandmother and great grandmother. She provided the wisdom of a teacher, the sincerity of a true friend and the tenderness of a mother to each grandchild. Carol enjoyed rolling the dice and playing cards, especially if she was winning. She is survived by one son; four daughters; one brother; two sisters; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Mrs. Ethyl Koening of Billings, MO was the informant on the death certificate. His wife in the 1900 census was Addie. She was Addie Etta Jones. His wife in the 1910 census was Etta. - Christian Co. Republican, June 21, 1945 - William Wylie Benson was born in the state of Indiana June 24, 1862, and departed this life June 12, 1945, at the age of 82 years, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ethel Koenig in Billings, Mo., following a lingering illness. On Oct. 3, 1893, he was united in marriage to Miss Addie Jones, who preceded him in death 14 years ago. To this union were born seven children. One son, Robert L. Benson, passed away at the early age of 30. Mr. Benson had long been a resident of Aurora and its vicinity and had formed many friendships that he valued highly. His early boyhood days were on the plains of central Kansas but the greater part of his life had been spent in the Ozarks. He served as an officer of the law in Greene county and at the age of 21 lost a limb in a railway accident at Dennison, Texas, while in the employ of the M.K. and T. Railroad. He professed faith in Christ at an early age and held steadfastly to it. He is survived by three sons, W. J. Benson of Oklahoma City, Okla., C. F. Benson of Wellington, Kans., and I. M. Benson of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Mrs. Ethel Koenig of Billings, Mrs. Adalene Gimlin of Yakima, Wash., and Mrs. Pauline Sweeney of San Diego, Calif.; one step daughter, Mrs. Viola Carsten of Minneapolis, Minn.; 18 grandchildren and five step grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Augusta Aton of Golden City, Mo. Research Note: Entered at findagrave.com with notes by J. S. Allmon: Martha Jane first married John Allmon in 1841 in Barren Co., KY. They had two children William Franklin and Mary Elizabeth who were born in DeKalb Co., AL. Family legend has that John was killed in 1845 by bush-wackers on his way home to Alabama from fighting in the Mexican War. His burial place is not known. Martha married Joseph Berry Coones in 1847 in DeKalb Co., AL. Martha's grave is unmarked. SSW: Isaac "Ike" - Inscription: "Married Mar. 12, 1931" - Research Note: Daughter of Caleb Sewell Brooks and Ivy Temple Johnson, was born September 14, 1914 in Hall County near Turkey, Texas and departed this life May 2, 2012 in Windcrest Nursing Home and Rehab Center in Fredericksburg, Texas at the age of 97. Norma was united in marriage to Ike Cowell on March 12, 1931 in Ellis Co., OK and celebrated their 67th anniversary before Ike passed in 1998. They moved to Crane, MO in 1963 when Ike elected to retire early after 30 years with Phillips Petroleum Company. Norma, who grew up as a Texas farm girl before becoming an oil field wife, was not hesitant to return to the Ozarks with him. She spent 32 years with Ike on their farm that ran along Crane Creek in Barry County. Then, in 1995, they moved to Houston, Texas to be near their son. Until they moved, Ike and Norma were members of Mountain Home Church of Christ near Galena, Missouri.
