Leon received his education in Cassville, where he graduated from high school and continued his education at Coffeyville Junior College. From April 1, 1959 until April 1, 1963 Leon served in the United States Navy. In 1982 he moved to Oklahoma, remaining there until 1994. The rest of his life was spent in Barry County, Missouri. Herman Beason Van Hook, age 46, married Charlotte Christine Davidson, age 24, on Nov. 16, 1940 in Allegheny Co., PA. - September 11, 1913, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Thomas Arnold, Elsey Sullivan, Leonard Bayless, Jesse Turner, Fred Johnson, Harris Hudson and Herman Van Hook were fined in the mayor's court this week for being intoxicated on the streets of the city and using abusive language to the city marshal. We hope this will never occur again. As is always the case such affairs cause humiliation upon the parties and heart aches to their families. From a mother of one of the above implicated, we've received a special request by letter not to make mention of the affair. To hold such news from the community would destroy the highest duty of the press to give the news impartially to the community, which it serves. Inscription: "Father" - Research Note: His wife was Emma Hensley. - Cassville Republican, Thursday, April 10, 1913 - John T. Van Hook Dead: John T. Van Hook, a well know citizen of Cassville, passed away at his home here at 5 o'clock on the morning of Monday, April 7, 1913, after an illness of several weeks of stomach and bowel trouble. John Van Hook was 63 years, 7 months, and 1 day old and was born at Berryville, Ark., Sept 6, 1840. He was the son of Benjamin F. and Mary A. Van Hook, who when their son was a small child moved to Round Rock, Texas, and were among the early settlers of that county. His father was killed there by the Indians in 1860. About 33 years ago he and his mother came to Cassville where he had lived until death. He was married to Miss Emma Hensley in 1893, a daughter of J. F. Hensley of Mt. Vernon. He is survived by his wife and four children, Herman, Julian, Mary and Ernest Van Hook and two sisters, Mrs. Caldonia Sallee of Oklahoma, Mrs. Gilberta O'Neal of New Mexico and a brother, Ben Van Hook of Claremore, Okla. The funeral ceremony was held at the Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. After an appropriate sermon was delivered by Rev. C. M. Smith, of Exeter his body was laid to rest in the Oak Hill Cemetery. J. T. Van Hook was a man of strong convictions, with the courage to express them. He was tenderly devoted to his family and his love of home and companionship of his children was one of his marked characteristics. The deceased will be missed especially in Cassville where he has lived so long. - October 9, 1909, Saturday, Cassville Democrat - J. T. He was graduated in June 1919 from William Jewell College and later entered the government service during the period of the war. He is now located at Manitou Springs, Colo. Mrs. Van Hook is the only child of the late Nelson and Mrs. Lelia Parrish. She was born and reared here, also. She is a young woman of many accomplishments and is a social favorite. For sometime previous to their marriage she had lived with her mother in St. Louis where she held a good position with the Missouri Pacific R. R. Co. Research Note: On his son, Charles Patton Vaught's, death certificate it reads that Abraham's wife was Serena Ann Patton, born KY. Abraham was a son of Henry and Esther (Baugh) Vaught. Henry's father, John Andrew Vaught, came from Carlsbad, Germany, and died in Montgomery Co., VA, in 1787. Henry, Abraham's father, was a brother to my ancestor, Andrew Vaught. Research Note: She was the daughter of Noah and Gertrude (Wehner) Wilson and grew up in Hobart, Indiana. On September 24, 1976, she was united in marriage to Virgil Vogt. Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, John Wilson. Tina moved from Indiana to Arkansas, where she met Virgil. She was a graduate of Mountain Home High School in Mountain Home, Arkansas. In 1978, they moved to Cassville to make their home. Tina had been employed at Barry County Court House and at Fasco.
