J. S. Platttenburg performed the ceremony. Mr. Newman is a son of Sheriff and Mrs. M. E. Newman of this city. He is deputy sheriff of Barry County and is discharging the duties well. He has practically lived in Cassville all his life and is highly respected by all who know him. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. J. M. Garner of this city. Research Note: George W. Newman first married Mildred Joe Keithly on Dec. 22, in Mt. Vernon, Lawrence Co., MO., divorced by 1930 census. Rolla T. Keithley, father of Mildred, gave consent. Mildred was living with her parents in the 1930 census with daughter Nancy Newman, age 6. According to his death certificate he was married to Dr. Mary (Northcutt) Newman, his second wife. He was a son of Stephen A. Newman and Zua Hailey. He was a WW I veteran. - In 1939, Dr. Mary, as she was called by her patients and almost everyone else in the area, moved to Cassville to share a medical practice with Dr. George Newman at the Barry Co. Clinic and Hospital. The following year, Dr. Newman and Dr. Mary Jane Northcutt were married. Dr. George Newman died in 1949 and the hospital closed a year later. Dr. Mary then opened her own offices and served on the staff of the Community Hospital in Cassville and later at St. Vincent's Hospital in Monett. Newman attended the German picnic northwest of Purdy, Monday. - Cassville Republican, Thursday, Dec. 19, 1918 - Otto Newman writes his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Newman of this city, that he fired his last shot in the world war at 10:58 o'clock (Paris time) on the morning of November 11. Otto is in the heavy artillery, in the 89th division. As the 89th is one of the divisions not yet designated to return, he will likely not be home until next summer at the earliest. The letter reached Cassville Saturday night. Also preceding her in death were her parents; second husband, Fred Baughman; two sons, James Lomax, Jr. and Kip Church; a grandson, Gregory Sparks; two brothers; four sisters; four special friends, Bernice, Barbara, Francis and Karlene and her beloved Boston Terrier, Logan. Surviving are one daughter, Madonna Sparks of Cassville, Missouri; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Carol graduated from high school. She was a homemaker and had lived in this area since 1972. Carol welcomed everyone with open arms, and had a big heart filled with love to share with anyone that was lucky enough to have known her. She loved babysitting, listening to country music, dancing, playing cards, karaoke, watching scary movies and going to yard sales, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. Doyle graduated from Cassville High School in 1940 and was a Charter Member of FFA. After school he entered the United States Army. During his Army career he served in Europe during World War II, Korea, Japan and last in Vietnam from which he retired. In 1966 he moved back to this area to make his home. On February 14, 1997 she married Glen Dale Nicoll, who preceded her in death on June 4, 2015. Also preceding her in death were her parents and three brothers, Gene, Neil and Harl Shields. Fran grew up and received her education in Julesburg, Colorado, where she graduated from high school and lived there fifty years. In 1985 she moved to Cassville, Missouri, remaining there until a few years ago to reside in Monett. While in Cassville she had been a legal secretary and was a bookkeeper in the Barry County Collector's office. He graduated Cassville High School in 1945 and enlisted in the Army. In 1946, he married Helen Virginia Horine. To this union two sons were born. Helen died in 1995. Glen was an interior decorator until he was elected County Assessor in 1968. He was elected to 8 terms and held this office for 32 years. He was elected President of the Missouri Assessors Association in 1994 and served on the Executive Board for 3 years. He was a member of Cassville Rotary Club where he was a past president, secretary and song leader. He was a member of Masons, Shriners and the American Legion. Research Note: She was the daughter of Theresa Ruth Allen. She graduated from Edison High School in 1974 and subsequently continued her education receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Education with honors. On May 17, 1975, she was united in marriage to Murray Adrian Rhoads, Jr. in Lawton, Oklahoma. Patty was a one-of- a-kind teacher and loved teaching. She always made time for all children to see their potential and pushed them to be their best. Patty taught special education for area schools including Cassville, Exeter and Billings, where she retired in 2016. Some of her favorite pastimes were reading, sewing and crafting. She also had her antique booth at the The Ole' Home Place in Cassville.
