FROST, Alta F. (GOODNIGHT) | Sept. 24, 1875 Cassville, Barry Co., MO |
Aug. 7, 1948 Carthage, Jasper Co., MO |
SSW: Arthur M. - Research Note: Alta was a daughter of George Goodnight and Elizabeth McCoy. Her husband was Arthur Mack Frost. The cause of her death was occlusion, coronary, instant death. Jack Frost's note: When confirming my birth-death dates for Alta F. (Goodnight) Frost, the wife of Arthur Mack Frost, I pulled up Alta's Official Missouri Death Certificate on the Missouri Digital Heritage site. I noticed an entry error that had been made when filling out the original document for the birth date of deceased: (August 7, 1948 was shown). The Date of death of the deceased is shown to be September 24, 1948. All hand written signatures are documented with a September 1948 date. I believe the birth date should have been August 7, 1875. Once again, I've said all that to say this: On the MoBarry Cemetery site for Oakhill, you have posted a photo of the grave marker for Alta and Arthur M. Frost. Alta's dates were 1875-1948. There is also some biographical data in which her birth and death dates are shown. I believe the Death Certificate error has caused a mixup in some of the dates shown on the MoBarry site for Oakhill. I believe the birth date of Alta should be: August 7, 1875; and the death date should be; September 24, 1948. My reasoning is, all the signatures on the Death Certificate were dated late September 1948, so I feel that the entry error was in birth year only. The death date shown on the Oakhill site could not have been an August date, so I think the day and month dates should be swapped. - October 2, 1913, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Mrs. T. S. The death certificate has birth date as Apr. 8, 1864 and the obit has Feb. 8, 1863. Family says it is 1863. Also has her as Mrs. Mary Jane "Deck" Frost in the obit. - Cassville Republican, Jan. 9, 1930 - Mrs. Mary Jane Frost: In the passing on Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the home of her daughter Mrs. Roy D. Reynolds in St. Louis, Cassville and community lost a valued citizen when Mrs. Mary Jane (Deck) Frost was called from earthly labor to heavenly reward. For many years she had been identified with church, lodge and other activities that were for the betterment of the community and her labor and counsel will be missed. For many years she was an active member of the Cassville Cemetery Association and devoted much time to the work. Mrs. Frost had been in poor health for many months and for the past four months had been confined to her home with stomach trouble. On Saturday before her passing she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Reynolds in St. Louis where she might receive special medical attention. On Tuesday morning she appeared as well as usual, although her condition was considered critical, but her death was not expected at the time. She was seated in a chair and learned her head on her arm to rest and passed away as she slept. Mrs. Frost was born on Feb. 8, 1863 in California and come to Missouri with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marve S. Inman when small. On November 21, 1880 she and Thomas S. Frost were united in marriage at Washburn and to them three children were born. Mrs. Roy D. Reynolds of St. Louis, Claud Frost of Tulsa, Okla., and a son who died in infancy. They moved to Cassville soon after their marriage which has since been their home. Mrs. Frost was a member of the Christian church, the Rebekah, the Royal Neighbors and the Woodmen Circle and took a prominent part in their work. The remains arrived in Cassville Wednesday night and funeral services were held at the Christian Church Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. C. S. Yarbrough a former pastor of the Christian church here and the body laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery under the direction of Horine Funeral Service. The large number of beautiful floral offerings and the exceeding large number that attended the funeral service showed in a small measure the high esteem in which she was held by her friends and acquaintances. A quartet composed of Charles Willis, Clinton Blythe, Mrs. Glenn Pearl and Mrs. John Ray with Mrs. Troy Wilson at the piano rendered some beautiful selections. - Linda McCormick's note: Marvel S. and Elizabeth (Morgan) Inman were the parents of my paternal great-grandmother - Louisa Virginia Inman West - and of her sister Mary Jane "Aunt Deck" Inman Frost. She married Thomas Simpson Frost. She was born in 1864, but not certain of the date. Also, Marvel "Marve" S. Inman was born in TN, rather than VA as the death certificate reads. - November 26, 1904, Saturday, Cassville Democrat - Claud Frost and Miss Leota Shepherd were married in Spokane, Wash., Tuesday of last week, by Judge Townsby.
