SSW: Marjorie F. - Inscription: "Wed June 7, 1942" - Research Note: He was the son of Roy Owen Randall and Gladys "Gay" Reyne Myers. Since early childhood his dream was to be an Aviator. His family moved to Monett, Missouri in 1936 where they were owners and proprietors of The Western Auto Store. He graduated from Monett High School in 1939, then enrolled in Kemper Military School where he focused on Aviation. After graduation and shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor in December of 1941, he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps. He married Marjorie Fay Reynaud in June of 1942 before leaving for overseas duty. During World War II, Howard was a B-17 pilot based in Nuthampstead, England with the 8th Air Force. From there he flew 37 bombing missions over Germany and France, including two separate missions to Normandy on D-Day. After the war he continued to serve in USAF Reserves for many additional years. Ultimately reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. When referred to as a war hero he would respond "I was just doing my job". After returning from active duty Howard and Marjorie returned to Monett and in 1952 they completed their family with the addition of their daughter Jane Ann. In 1957, The Western Auto Store was sold and Howard became a partner in Friend Tire Company. After 25 years of dedicated service at Friend Tire he became president of the company. During this time he maintained an entrepreneurial spirit where he wore several different hats from rancher, farmer, citrus grower, UMB bank board member, independent pilot, and property manager. Howard was appointed by the Governor to become a Regent for The Missouri State University. He served on the UMB bank board. Research Note: Obit: Mrs. Elizabeth Robinson was the daughter of James B. Hixon and Mary E. Coffman both born TN. She moved to Missouri at an early age, where she spent the most of her life. She was married in Dade county, Mo., Sept. 7, 1854, to P. G. Robinson, by Rev. J.S. Campbell. To this union eight children were born, four of whom had gone on before. The four remaining children were present at the funeral. They are Dr. J. W. Robinson, Verona, Mo., J. M. Robinson, Loraine, Kan., Mrs. Mary E. Fare, Pittsburg, Kan., and Mrs. Nancy L. Garris, Monett. A short service was held at the home of Mrs. Garris by Rev. Smith at 1 o'clock, on account of Dr. Robinson and Mrs. Garris being unable to attend the services at the church. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. M. M. Smith at the Baptist church at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, 1903, after which the remains were interred in the Westbay Cemetery, north of town. - Funeral Notice: - Elizabeth Robinson died Friday, Jan. 9, 1903, at 6:30 a.m., aged 65 years, 9 months and 22 days. Funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. M.M. Smith. There will be a short talk at the residence at 1 o'clock by Rev. Smith. Inscription: "Sergt. - CO. A - 1 ARK. CAV." - Research Note: Goodspeed's 1888 History of Barry Co. - Perry G. Robinson, a farmer residing three and one-half miles SE of Monett, MO, was born in 1832, in Roan Co., TN. He is the son of Wiley G. and Elizabeth (Liles) Robinson. Wiley G. Robinson was also a native of East TN, but his family were originally from VA. He was a farmer and was killed in KY while serving in the Federal army. His wife was born and passed her life in East TN. To them were born eight children: Perry G., James, Sarah, Della, Ina, Elizabeth, Cordelia and Mary Etta. Perry G. was reared at the home of his parents, and secured his education in the common schools of TN. In Jan. 1852, he immigrated to Dade Co., MO where he was married in 1854 to Elizabeth Hixon. She was born in East TN on Mar. 17, 1837. Her parents were also natives of TN, but her grandparents were from VA and PA. To Mr. and Mrs. Robinson have been born eight children, viz: James Wiley (a telegraph operator in Verona, MO); Barbara Angeline (deceased); Andrew Jackson (deceased); Mary E. (Mrs. A. J. Fare of Barton Co., MO); Nancy L. (Mrs. William H. Garris of Barry Co., MO); Florence Virginia (deceased) and William Jasper. Mr. Robinson has a farm in the finest part of Barry Co. Both he and wife are members of the Baptist Church. In 1859 they moved from Dade Co. to AR. The Civil War breaking out two years later. Mr. Robinson entered the Union army in June 1862, being assigned to the First AR Cav. He participated in the Prairie Grove engagement on Dec. 7, 1862, and his recollection of that hotly contested battle field is as vivid as if the battle had occurred but recently.
