General Brixey of Seligman, MO, gave the information. Daniel Barry Pendergraft, husband of Susannah A. Banks. - July 28, 1910, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Daniel Pendergraft died July 21, at his home near Seligman of paralysis, aged about 60 years. He had been in bad health for some time. Daniel Pendergraft was a brother of the late G. W. Pendergraft. The two brothers died within a week of each other. Three brothers of the family have died during the past year. - Nov. 10, 1910, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Walter Pendergraft and Dave Brewer were here Saturday. They took a handsome monument to the New Salem cemetery to be erected at the grave of Daniel Pendergraft. W. M. W. Pendergraft of near Seligman was in Cassville Monday. He says he has out six acres of beans and six acres of cowpeas. He tried a bean crop last year in an experimental way and found it a very probable crop, making it as high as $96 per acre on one variety he grew and $90 per acre on another variety. Donna's Note: James Wallace second married Elizabeth Weston. Cindy posted that Mary's mother was Mary Reddick. Her death certificate reads that her father was James Wallace. It also reads that John Pendergraft was her husband. She died from the effects of a fractured bone and was a widow at the time of her death. Evert Pendergraft gave the information. - Cassville Democrat, Dec. 4 , 1929 - A Good Woman Passes at Seligman, Missouri: Mary (Wallace) Pendergraft was born in Lee county, Va. Feb. 6, 1849. She came to Missouri with her parents when two years old, and settled in Barry County, where she lived all of her life. She was married to John Pendergraft Feb. 9, 1873. He passed on to his reward 25 years ago. To this union was born one son, with whom she made her home. Died Dec. 23, 1928, age 79 years, 19 months and 17 days. She was converted at an early age and joined the Baptist church at New Salem, where she was an active member until the church disbanded. She is survived by her only son, Elbert Pendergraft, two grandsons, Evert and Lloyd Pendergraft, two sisters, Massie Bowman Seligman, Harriet Edens Washburn, two brothers Jim Wallace Seligman and Bill Wallace Hastings, Okla., two half brothers, Dave Wallace, Carlisle, Washington, Adam Wallace, Stanley Okla., and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her death. Funeral service was conducted at New Salem by Rev. C. M. Smith. - Maybe Joplin Globe: Woman's Coffin of Barry Co., Logs: Monett, Dec. 29 - A coffin made from logs sawed from trees on her Barry Co., farm held the body of Mrs. Mary (Wallace) Pendergraft when she was buried Monday afternoon in New Salem cemetery, near Seligman. Mrs. Pendergraft came to Barry Co. when she was only 1 years old, and spent the rest of her life here. She was 79 when she died. When modern conveniences were adopted, Mrs. Pendergraft would have nothing to do with them. Up till her death, she carried water from a spring some distance from the house, and rejected all other such innovations. To this union were born 11 children. Mrs. Martin and 5 children have died. Surviving relatives include three sons. Jesse, Garland and Christie Martin of Livingston; three daughters, Mrs. Bessie Poe of Seligman, Mo.; Mrs. Oma Roup of Livingston and Mrs. Nettie Haviland of Erie, Kan.; one sister, Mrs. Susan Snyder of Garfield Ark.; 26 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mrs. Roller was born in 1910 in the state of Kansas, the daughter of George Roscoe and Eva Leah (Owens) Brown. She was educated at Shady Grove School. She was a homemaker and had been a seamstress. She had lived in Seligman and Joplin before moving to California in 1939. She married Ray Keen Roller on November 14, 1931, and he preceded her in death December 17, 1970. Survivors include one brother, Bill Brown of Cassville; two sisters, Lorraine Robbins of Cassville and Ruby Hickman of Downey, California; and several nieces and nephews. Research Note: Her death certificate reads that her father was Henry Pendergraft and that her mother was Polly Beaver, both born in TN. Floyd Roller of Seligman, MO, gave the information. Wife of Daniel Roller. - December 3, 1914, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Aunt Elizabeth Roller died at the home of her son, Robert, Sunday night at 10 p.m. of paralysis. She with her daughter, Marinda Walden, were visiting at the home of her son, and was feeling well as usual until stricken with paralysis on Monday, Nov. 23. Her children were all at her bedside except Mrs. Abe Swindle of California and George of Colorado. All was done that loving hands could do. But God saw fit to call her home and she peacefully obeyed. The funeral services were conducted at New Salem Monday, Nov. 30 at 3 p.m. by P. H. Hodge of Washburn and Interment was made in the cemetery near by. Besides her children, she leaves scores of other relatives and friends to mourn her untimely death. To the bereaved ones we extend our heartfelt sympathy. - December 10, 1914, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Elizabeth Roller was born Feb. 7, 1835, near Nashville, Tenn., and died Nov 29, 1914, age 79 years, 9 months and 22 days. With her parents she left Tennessee in her infancy and lived at Little Rock, Ark., about one year. She came to Barry County when he was about 3 years old, where she has lived ever since. At the age of 20, she married to Daniel Roller, whom God permitted to live with her 42 years. She was the mother of 13 children, 10 of whom are left to mourn her death, 52 grandchildren, 48 living, 21 great-grandchildren, 18 living. Besides being a mother of all these she was a mother to all who knew her. But now it has been God's will to call her home and she has gone beckoning as to follow. Presh Montgomery (daughter) was the informant on the death certificate. - Wheaton Journal, Thursday, February 25, 1937 - Robert Roller, son of Daniel and Elizabeth Roller, was born near Seligman, MO, Nov. 11, 1857 and died at his home Feb. 16, 1937. He was united in marriage to Dorthula Roller, Mar. 31,1884. To this union 13 children were born, two having preceded him in death. He is survived by his good wife and eleven children, who are Claud Roller, Mrs. Maud Henbest, Mrs. Presh Montgomery, Jim Roller, Mrs. Effie Ruddick, Mrs. Bonnie Arnhart, Mrs. Ora Frost, Basil, Early, Fay and Ray Roller. He leaves twenty-five grand children, eight great grand children, five brothers and two sisters. He united with the Big Springs Baptist Church, Dec. 3, 1907. He devoted his life to his family, community and friends. He was never too busy to give his time to aid those in sorrow and distress. His aim in life was to be of service to humanity and to be deserving the confidence and respect of all who knew him. One of the largest gatherings of neighbors and friends at the Community Building in Seligman where funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 18, 1937, by Chas. Vanzandt, gave evidence of the esteem in which he was held. Burial was in the New Salem Cemetery, under the direction of the Horine-Culver Funeral Service. The following grand sons acted as pall bearers: Paul Henbest, Harold Arnhart, Robert Roller, Joe Roller, Lige Frost and Denzil Roller. Music was furnished by the Seligman Singers. - May 18, 1907, Saturday, Cassville Democrat - Dave Roller visited the scenes of former days near Seligman last week. He said lighting struck Robert Roller residence last week and cut quite a lot of capers. From his report it appears the lighting tried to get all over the residences. Several persons in their house were shocked. - January 13, 1916, Thursday, Cassville Republican - New Salem News: Robert Roller, wife and sons, Ray and Fay, attended the W. O. W. supper at Washburn Saturday night and visited C.D. Roller, Seligman, MO, gave the information. - Cassville Republican, March 28, 1918 - Mrs. S. V. Roller passed away at her home 2 miles north of Seligman, Tuesday, March 19 at 6 o'clock. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at New Salem conducted by Rev. Hodge. Susie Roller was born June 14, 1866 near Seligman where she spent most of her life. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Roller who have both proceeded her to the land of the great beyond. She was a member of the Christian church. She and S. V. Roller were united in marriage Feb. 14, 1889, and to this union were born three children, two of whom survive. They are Mrs. W. R. Collier of Doty, Wash., and Warren Roller who is still at home with his father and one grand daughter, Elizabeth Collier. She leaves three sisters and six brothers: Mrs. Abe Swindle and Mrs. J. E. Wasson of California, Mrs. B. Waldon of Beaver, Ark., George and R. Research Note: He was the son of Lennis Jefferson and Velma (Fletcher) Rose, was born on March 24, 1937, in Cassville, Missouri. After high school he enlisted in the Navy where he served in the Korean Conflict. On January 17, 1956, he was united in marriage to Bettie Miller in Souenlovie, Mississippi. They owned and operated an insulation company in both Lubbock and Amarillo, Texas. In 1993 they moved to Alzada, Montana where he started his career as a minister. In 2000 they moved back to Washburn, and served as pastor at First Baptist Church in Washburn and Hart Baptist Church in Seneca. Reverend Rose loved the Lord with all his heart, and sacrificed much of his time for the ministry.
