He installed a small engine to force water into the tanks. - Cassville Republican, Thursday, Oct. 30, 1919 - Kings Prairie: C. C. Carter's canning factory has closed for the season. - Note by Carolyn Leonard: Uncle Chris, as many in the small Barry Co. community knew him, owned a little store, ran a canning factory and I'm sure he was a farmer. He lived all of his life (1871-1948) on King's Prairie as far as I know. He married Cora Belle Stribling and they had 8 children. His father came from Tennessee, homesteaded land on King's Prairie and donated a portion for a church, cemetery, and school. His parents and many descendents are buried in that cemetery. Chris had a sorghum mill on his corner of land at the cross roads. They called it Carter's Corners. Three of the corners were corners belonging to Carters. In 1895 he built a General Merchandise Store; he had farm machinery, farm produce, groceries and dry goods. The store burned on July 13, 1916. Near the store building was a flour and feed mill, later converted into a canning factory. - C. C. Carter General Store | Death Certificate Online Newspapers Phyllis Long Photo Donna Cooper |

May 19, 2020 MO |
Research Note: She was the daughter of Billie Jean Tackett and Aaron Dee Burdett. As a young girl April was always full of mischief and adventure, the slightly louder, dancing and singing one of the bunch, it would come as no surprise that our great grandpa Clarence would dub her early on as "the Little Rockstar". As April grew-up she continued to always be the brightest light in the room. Her beautiful smile and infectious laughter, along with her unique deep scratchy voice always set her apart from the crowd. Not only was she beautiful on the outside, she was just as beautiful on the inside. Her compassionate spirit and sweet nature drew many to her, and never did she know a stranger. Her senior picture caption read "If your already walking on thin ice, why not dance?" This quote depicts April completely. For everyone that knew her well, knows that she is in heaven now dancing with her daddy. April will be forever remembered by her husband, best friend, and fishing partner Kyle Cornell, and her precious children. | Buchanan Funeral Home Phyllis Long |
