Mrs. Smith King of Purdy, MO was the informant on the death certificate. - Cassville Democrat, April 26, 1929 - Mrs. J. D. Riddle, 87 years old was found dead in bed Monday morning at her home at Butterfield. Heart disease was supposed to have caused her death. Mrs. Riddle had been in good health for one or her age, and Sunday had been visiting at the homes of her neighbors. She observed her eighty- seventh birthday April 14. She was evidently was up Sunday night as a light was burning when her son-in-law C.A. Payne, found her Monday morning. Mrs. Riddle had lived in or near Butterfield most of her life. Her husband died about 10 or 12 years ago but nine children survive her. Of these, four live at Butterfield, three in Oklahoma and two in Canada. She was the mother of John Riddle well known farmer resided in Talbert Mill vicinity north of this city. She is survived by the following children: James and George Riddle of Canada; Mrs. Rhoda Weaver of Atoka, Okla; Will Riddle of Ada, Okla; Mrs. Smith King, Mrs. Charles Payne and Mrs. Mack Gurley of Purdy; Mrs. John Ennis of Wewoka, Okla. and John Riddle of Cassville. He had been in ill health for some time and about two weeks ago was taken to the Stella Hospital where he passed away Friday of last week. He is survived by five children. Marjorie started to school at the Talbert one-room rural school before the school's students were transferred to the Purdy School District. She then graduated from Purdy High School in 1950. She was united in marriage to Robert Ryder on December 24, 1950. They settled into an apartment above the Elkins Butane company in Wheaton, later moved to a small house near Pioneer, and finally purchased a farm just south of Purdy in 1954. Marjorie began her working career working as a receptionist for Dr. Russell Powell, an optometrist, in Monett. Her duties expanded as Dr. Danny Nestleroad and Dr. J. D. Roberts were added to the practice. Following her retirement in 1994, she worked part-time in the Barry County Assessor's office for one tax season. In earlier years Marjorie was very active in area Home Economics Extension Clubs. She and her husband, Robert, were charter members of the Barry County Museum Volunteer Program. Research Note: Cassville, Barry Co., MO resident. He was the son of Harry Clark and Ella Mae (Harper) Ryder. He was a 1942 Wheaton High School graduate and was subsequently drafted in the United States Army in 1943 and was called out to serve in January 1944 and was honorably discharges in 1946. Robert served his country proudly in the Philippines and in Japan during World War II. On December 24, 1951, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Ann Young; she preceded him in death on January 6, 2018. Robert enjoyed tinkering in his shop and reading. He and his wife, Marjorie were charter members of the Barry County Museum Volunteer Program and both volunteered their time regularly. Robert was a member of the Mill Street Church of Christ in Cassville. In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Ryder; and two sisters, Marilyn Baybo and Kathryn Bangert. Due to the weather conditions for Saturday, the memorial service for Robert will be held at the Mill Street Church of Christ in Cassville, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2021, with Minister Laith Hayward officiating.
