Jeffries. - Monett Times, Aug. 28, 1914 - Norris Jeffries, son of Chas. Jeffries, north of Purdy, was married, Tuesday, to Miss Effie Adams, of Butterfield. - Monett Times, Apr. 27, 1917 - Rev. E. R. Stribling went to Purdy, last Thursday to conduct the funeral services of Mrs. Norris Jeffries, who died very suddenly of heart failure. - Margaret's notes: According to census and other records, Effie was a daughter of Guilford Greenville Adams and Mary Elizabeth Henry. Norris and Effie's son, Charles Webb Jeffries, was born 27 Oct. 1915, in Purdy. After his mother died and his father enlisted in the Navy, Webb lived with his grandparents in Missouri and later Oklahoma. Norris remarried about 1923 and moved to Arkansas and then to Oklahoma. Webb graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1936. He married Donna Aldeena Rankin on 27 Mar. 1937 in Neosho, MO. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on 26 Sept. 1943 and served in the Army Air Corps. In early 1945 he was serving as Intelligence Officer of the 3rd Bombardment Squadron, 1st Bombardment Group, Chinese-American Composite Wing, 14th Air Force in China. Mrs. Jennings was born March 23, 1849 at Buffalo, N. Y., being 50 years 11 months, and 3 days old. She was married July 12, 1868, at Twin Lake, Iowa. Eight children were born to them, five of who survive, one son and four daughters. She was converted and joined the United Brethren at the age of seventeen. Research Note: He was the son of Oliver and Madge (Dinkins) Keeling. On November 26, 1960 he was united in marriage to Leona Hutton. Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, John and a grandson Hunter. Allen grew up and attended school in Purdy where he graduated from high school. All his life was spent in Barry County. At a young age he starting milking, farming and working dairy cattle, which he continued throughout his life. For several years he was a member of the Purdy School Board. He was a member of Longview Methodist Protestant Church in Purdy. Legacy, patriarch, giving, selfless, pillar of the community, never turned anyone in need away and he never met a stranger are just a few things we can say about this man. The laughter, the scolding's and leadership will be missed forever. Because of one godly marriage (59 years) and two great parents, he had a bigger impact on hundreds of lives than anyone you will ever meet. Research Note: Cassville Democrat Obit - John Edward Kennedy, 71, of Bountiful, Utah, passed away at his home Wednesday Sept. 7, 2011. He was born Sept. 29, 1931, to Vernie Smith Long Kennedy and William Kennedy. He resided on a farm in Monett the first 17 years of his life. In 1948, he moved to Bountiful, Utah, and graduated from Davis High in 1950. He was of the Baptist faith. He opened the House of Customs auto upholstery shop in 1957 and was in business until his passing. Among his many achievements were: forming the Corvette Club of Utah in 1964; being selected to be a Bloomington Gold Corvette judge; serving as a long-time National Corvette Restorers Society member; and he was appointed as the NCRS National Tech advisor for tops and interiors. His restorations on these early Corvettes became the standard from which all others are judged. He is survived by one brother, Wayne Kennedy, of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Vernie Kennedy; brothers Austin Long and Olen Long; and sister, Opal Long Terry. Funeral services were held in Utah today (Wednesday) at Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Butterfield, under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Lee Neill will conduct the services.
