BURROWS, William Harrison | Mar. 26, 1844 Leicestershire, England |
May 24, 1915 Barry Co., MO |
Inscription: "At Rest" - Research Note: His death certificate reads that he was buried in Purdy Cemetery. He was a retired farmer and died from the effects of obstruction of the bowels. His first wife was Ann Bolton. William Burrows, age 53, second married Sarah A. Tibbetts, age 48, on Aug. 7, 1898 in Barry Co., MO. - June 3, 1915, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Obituary: William Burrows died at his home in Purdy at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 24, after a short illness. He took sick on Tuesday the 18th, with a severe pain in the stomach after local physicians did all in their power to relieve him it was decided that an operation was necessary. Dr. West of Monett assisted by Dr.s Freeland, Kelley and Horton of Purdy performed the operation on Wednesday following. It disclosed that a malignant growth had formed which had entirely locked the bowels. A part of the intestines were removed and he stood the operation well and revived from the shock but owing to his advanced age and the seriousness of the operation he could not survive. William Burrows was born in Leicestershire, England in 1842, came to Barry County in 1871 and had since that time been a resident of this county. He professed faith in Christ soon after coming to America and had lived a devoted Christian. Those who knew him knew best of the kind of a life he lived - ever ready to help where help was merited, ever ready to do what he could for the cause of his master. It can be said truthfully of him that he did the best he could. His last hours were spent in complete consciousness and the end came as a sleep in always does to those who have lived to die in the Lord. He will be missed by all who knew him and in the church and Sunday School. It was his prayer that someone take up the good work for the Master that he loves so well. He leaves a wife, five daughters, two sons and a host of friends to mourn his passing. The world was made better by his having lived in it. From his example we were made to realize that "Better is the day of a man's death than the day of the birth, when it is but the door to the paradise of God." - August 19, 1915, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Personal and Local News: Mrs. Wm. Burrows of Purdy spent Thursday in this city. She will move to Cassville the last of August and occupy the Beasley property as Mrs. Beasley will go to Springfield to be with her daughter, Miss Ruth, who will attend Drury College again this year. | Death Certificate Donna Cooper Online Newspapers MO Marriage Records Phyllis Long 1999 Transcription Photo Jay Trace |
