Brattin of Cassville and burial was made in the Odd Fellow cemetery. Research Note: He was the son of John and Stella (Swadley) Johnson. Jay retired from General Motors in Indianapolis, Ind., in 1995. He had worked as an electrician in the Kansas City facility until its closure, when he transferred to the Indianapolis facility. He graduated from Monett High School in 1951. While in high school, he worked at the Monett Bakery and there he met the love of his life, Ollie Belle Swindell and they were married on April 7, 1951. Jay and his bride moved to the Kansas City area where he was employed by Old American Roofing which later became G.A.F. In 1952, he joined the United States Air Force and served as chief electrician in the airplane maintenance department on the island of Guam. Following his discharge in 1956, he returned to G.A.F. and completed his schooling in advanced electrician studies through night school classes. After retiring from there, he joined General Motors. In 1952, four years after returning from his military service, Gene earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri at Columbia. He married Betty Paul Sours on April 24, 1955 in Jefferson City, Mo. He was employed by the Product Development Corporation in St. Louis, Mo. In 1955, Gene was transferred to Denver, worked with the Mountain States Telephone Company and traveled throughout the western United States through 1964. Gene retired from the Colorado State Employment Service in Fort Collins having worked as an employment counselor and assistant manager from 1964 to 1987. She died from the effects of the influenza and heart trouble. She died at home, 301 Lincoln Ave, Monett, MO. James A. Johnson was given as her husband's name. Mrs. Oltie Davis gave the information. The old stone reads that she was born Mar. 16, 1872 and not 1871 as the new stone and her death certificate reads. - Wheaton Journal, Thursday, Mar 17, 1937 - Mrs. Mollie Mary Johnson, wife of J. A. Johnson of Monett, died Tuesday morning of last week following a six weeks illness of flu and complications. Mrs. Johnson, the daughter of George and Nancy (Carney) Moore was born in Barry County, March 16, 1871 and died March 9, 1937. When a young woman she was married to James A. Johnson in Barry County and to this union three children were born, all of whom survive. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson moved their family to Monett in 1907 and have since resided there. Mrs. Johnson, a true Christian woman, was loved by all who knew her as her kindness and charitable ways were most outstanding. She had been in ill health for some time, the last illness of flu and complications lasting for six weeks. Surviving besides the husband are three children, Mrs. Ottie Davis of Monett, Earl E. Johnson of Kansas City and Glenn P.
