Feb. 2, 2008 | Research Note: Dan Eugene Easley, 84, of Monett, Mo., passed away at 12 p.m. noon, February 2, 2008, after a long illness. He was born January 9, 1924, in Eureka Springs, Ark., the son of Mallie Green and Truda (Farwell) Easley. Dan attended Roach Country School, boarded at School of the Ozarks High School for two years, and graduated from Cassville High School with the class of 1942. Raised on a cattle farm in South Barry Co., Mo., he worked with his family in farming, and later worked in Broom corn harvest in Colorado and wheat harvest in Kansas. Dan was united in marriage to Doris Lorayne Sims in Bentonville, Ark., on November 28, 1943. Dan and Doris moved to Monett, Mo., and purchased the Sinclair/Goodyear dealership in 1944. Together they operated Easley's Sinclair and two "Can" milk routes for the next 22 years. Dan, Doris, and their son purchased the Dr. Pepper franchise for Barry, Lawrence, and Stone counties in 1966, which they operated as Easley's Southwest Dr. Pepper Bottling Co., Inc., until August 31, 2001. During these years, the family also owned and leased rental properties. Dan and Doris retired on September 1, 2001, at which time their son continued to operate their real estate interest. Dan was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Doris Lorayne; his parents; two brothers, Bertie A. Easley and Joe Warner Easley; and three sisters, Wilma Easley, Carman Easley and Ruby Easley Sharon. Dan is survived by his children and their spouses, a son and daughter of Monett, a son of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren of Monett, MO and Houston, Texas; a brother-in-law of Palestine, Texas; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, February 7, 2008, at 2 p.m. in Buchanan Funeral Home with Rev. M.E. Fitzpatrick officiating. Burial will follow in IOOF. Cemetery of Monett. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, in the funeral home. Research Note: Doris Lorayne (Sims) Easley, age 86, of Monett, Missouri, passed away at 7 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2007, in her home following a long illness. Her constant companions, Max and Carolyn, were at her side. She was born December 13, 1921, in Cassville, Missouri, the daughter of John Lester and Avesta (Fulton) Sims. Doris was a graduate of Cassville High School, and thereafter, she began her career as a legal secretary in Barry County. She later became clerk for the Selective Service Board during the WWII years. Doris was united in marriage to Dan Eugene Easley, of Eagle Rock, Missouri, on November 28, 1943. Doris and Dan moved to Monett and operated Easley's Sinclair Service and owned two "can" milk routes for the next 22 years. Doris opened Easley's Beauty Shop in 1959, in her home, which she operated until 1986. Doris, Dan, and Max purchased the Dr. Pepper Bottling Franchise for Barry, Lawrence, and Stone counties, which they operated as Easley's Southwest Dr. Pepper Bottling company, Inc. until August 31, 2001. The family, during these years, also owned and leased rental property. Doris and Dan retired on September 1, 2001, at which time their son, Max continued to operate their real estate interest. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Leo Sims and Mack Sims; two sisters, Lela Sims and Louise Sims Lowe. Mrs. Emma Edson, Monett, MO, gave the information. - Retired Postal Clerk Dies Unexpectedly: Monett, Mo., Feb. 9 - Arthur Ernest Edson, 65 years old, a retired postal clerk, died unexpectedly at 6:30 o'clock Monday night at his home, 600 West Dunn street, after suffering a heart attack. Born April 16, 1888, in Seneca, he had been a resident of Monett for 41 years. He was married at Wentworth on May 15, 1913, to Miss Emma Lux, who survives. He was a member of the First Methodist Church. Surviving besides his widow, are a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Brite of Monett; a son, Arthur Edson, Jr., of Alexandria, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Hensley and Mrs. Viola Hensley and Mrs. Viola Adney of Pittsburg, and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the Buchanan funeral home chapel with the Rev. F. L. Standard officiating. He was a K9 guard with a dog named Pete. On Feb. 25, 1957, he married Nadine Phillips in Clinton, Ark. They traveled to a variety of towns due to his work in the oil fields. For 10 years, they lived in Udall where he served as sheriff. They then moved to Winfield where he worked as a mechanic at General Electric. He retired in 1983. Edwards was a member of American Legion Post 10 and the First Church of the Nazarene. A son, Randall DeQuinn Edwards, and a daughter, Sharon Kay Edwards, preceded him in death. Bill worked for many years as a delivery driver for Foremost Milk and later had worked for Wells Aluminum, retiring in 1989. Bill was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church as well as a member of the Masonic Lodge. On June 30, 1950 in Monett, MO, at the former First Baptist Church, Bill married Verna Mae Scott. They were blessed with three children and over 62 years of companionship before her passing on March 2, 2013.
