A death certificate for Nancy Coatney reads that she was age 62 years, 6 months and 10 days old at the time of her death. Morrison was her father's name and no name was given for her mother. According to his death certificate he was buried on Jan. 28, 1948 and not the 27th as the log book reads. His name is logged as Charley but the death certificate reads that it was Charles Edward Collins and he had lived in West Plains 4 years. He was a merchant. His father was Bartholomew Collins, born Ozark Co., MO, and his mother was Mary Capps, born Ozark Co., MO. He had a cerebral hemorrhage and died Jan. 24, 1948. Mrs. C. E. After Olen graduated, they moved and started a Dental practice where she worked not as Mother, but receptionist and bookkeeper at the Dental office. While living in Scott City, Janice was active in the Federated Music Club, Study Club, Bible Study, P.E.O, Eastern Star, and the Christian Church. He enlisted in the Navy in July of 1943 and served until June of 1946. He was stationed in several places including Treasure Island, San Francisco, and aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid, and was discharged at Norman, Oklahoma. After military service he attended Ft. Hays State College from 1946 to 1950 graduating with an AB in Chemistry and Zoology. While at Ft. Hays he met and married Janice S. Starke. They were wed on August 17, 1947. After graduating he and Janice moved to Kansas City where he attended the University of Kansas City from 1950 to 1954 graduating from the School of Dentistry. They moved to Scott City, Kansas where they were in private practice from 1950 until 1979. Moving to Purdy in 1979, they practiced there until they retired in 1989 and moving to Monett residing there until his death. Olen was preceded in death by both parents and his only brother, Bobby L. Copper of Louisville, Kentucky. Olen was a life long member of the Masons, Anthem Lodge 284, Eastern Star, Isis Shrine, Salina, Kansas and a member of the Countryside Christian Church. On February 25, 1992, Jay married Judith Ann "Judy" Thompson. They were blessed with many wonderful memories until her passing in 2009. He had worked at Brokaw Paper Mill until he retired in 2000. Jay and Judy retired to Monett where he worked for Wal-Mart for another fourteen years. He later volunteered for Hospice for another five years after the passing of his beloved wife Judy. Jay enjoyed flying his ultra lite airplane for many years and especially liked to buzz the paper mill. Jay is survived by eight sons and two daughters. Research Note: Son of Evelyn B. and William F. Crouse. He grew up in St. Charles where he graduated from high school. Jim attended Hannibal-LaGrange College and later transferred to Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO. where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1974. While attending the First Baptist Church in Springfield, MO. he met the love of his life, Carol Jeanne Olson, daughter of Henry and Mildred Olson, of Monett. MO. The two were married in that same church on July 17, 1976 and enjoyed forty-seven years of true happiness. Jim and Carol moved to Overland Park, KS, in 1978. Jim managed the Eddy's Loaf and Stein at Metcalf South Mall for a few years before he found his true calling in helping others navigate the challenges of life. He became a teacher/counselor for Community Living Opportunities (CLO) in Shawnee Mission, KS. CLO is a non-profit organization focused on helping adults and children with developmental disabilities. After retiring, Jim became an Ombudsman for the state of Kansas where he served as a patient advocate for nursing home patients in Olathe, KS. Jim was a model train enthusiast and collector. He was a member of the Heart of America Train Collectors Association. He enjoyed attending model train shows and supplementing his collection. He had a love of music, especially organ music. He could literally rattle the rafters when he turned the speakers as high as they could go. It was never too loud for him. Jim was a season ticket member of the K.C. Symphony until his health prevented attendance. He always enjoyed the performances when the organ was featured. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Evelyn Crouse.
