Research Note: He was the son of Otto and Lura Means-Caldwell. Pooch married his high school sweetheart on October 9, 1954 in Monett. They were married for 54 years until her death in 2009. Pooch went to Minden School where as a 7th grader he worked as a janitor going to school early to light the stove during the winter. He was a proud member of the MHS Class of '51. He sported #61RE for the Cubs when they became '49 and '50 Conference champs and played in the Marble Bowl. He was a member of the Missouri National Guard, Monett Masonic Lodge and the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine. He loved attending the senior dances in the area and started a local one at the Monett Senior Center. Pooch worked for Herman Brown-Lowe Wholesale Auto Parts for 6 years. He then went to work for Friend Tire Service as a bookkeeper. After a year he hit the road in sales for 26 more years. He then traded his jeans for a suit and tie as the 13th employee and first salesman for Jack Henry and Associates. When he first started he didn't know that software wasn't "soft goods" but that didn't stop him from helping the company become what it is today. After 16 years he hung up his traveling shoes and unsuccessfully tried retirement. He donned a realtor's hat for 5 years for Crown Double K until he finally gave in to retirement. Before coming to Monett he had been principal at the Mound City High School. He was a member of the Monett First United Methodist Church. He was past president of the Monett Kiwanis Club, MO Asso. of Jr. Colleges, MO State Administration Asso., and the MO State Principal's Asso. Mr. Camp held lifetime memberships in the MO State Teacher's Asso and the National Education Asso. He had been awarded the Beaver Award for his work with Boy Scouts. The cemetery log does not list that this person is without a stone. He was a retired merchant. Son of William Campbell and Pauline Tisley? both born IN. POSSIBLY NO STONE - Cassville Democrat, December 9, 1905 - Campbell Bros. Fined: The case of State vs. John and James Campbell charged with exposing goods, wares and merchandise on Sunday, Judge Gray ruled that the sale of chili, ice cream, ice cream soda, lemonade or anything that might be prepared to eat would not be unlawful. Canned goods cannot be sold. Jas. Campbell was convicted for selling 3 lemons and was fined $1.00. The case was appealed to the Court of Appeals. All the other cases against Campbell Bros. were continued until the higher court passes on the case appealed. Callaway Funeral Home records list him as W. P. Campbell, married, age 69, burial IOOF. - Wm. P. Campbell, age 69 years, died this morning at 1:30 o'clock at his home on Fifth Street following a long illness caused by a complication of troubles. The deceased was the father of James Campbell, the restaurant man, and except for a few years intermission had lived in Monett fourteen years. He was born in Ohio and moved west in the early days. He was a good kind-hearted man and a good husband and father. He leaves besides his wife, eight children. They are: J. W. of Los Animas, Colorado; J. F.; G. W; C. M.; Dee and Grover of Monett; Mrs. A. J. Ahl, Galena, Kansas; and Mrs. B. Parkinson of Okmulgee, Okla. Kirk attended Monett High School graduating class of 1942 and then volunteered for the Navy from November 10, 1943 to May of 1946. After her husband died in 1972, she obtained her realtor license and worked part time for Century 21 and later for Re-Max of Aurora. Due to health issues, she retired in April of 2007 and moved to Raleigh, NC to be closer to her daughter. Many remember Velma for her love of the water, whether swimming, skiing or scuba diving, square dancing and traveling until 2007. Alpheus moved to Missouri in company with his father when twenty-three years old. He received his education in Ohio, and learned the carpenter's trade under his father. He afterward worked at his trade in Kentucky and Tennessee, arrived at DeWitt, his present home, in 1867, and has followed his trade ever since. During the late civil war, Mr. Chain enlisted in the Confederate army and served six months in Company H, of Colonel Hughes' regiment. W. - Research Note: Funeral services for Mrs. Geraldine Clay, 55, of Monett, were at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Grady Cockerham officiating. Burial was in the Monett IOOF Cemetery. Mrs. Clay died at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday in St. Vincent’s Hospital of cancer. A native of Washburn, Mrs. Clay attended School there and then attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar for two years. She was a member of First Baptist Church here and was employed at the church as a secretary for several years. Survivors include her husband, A. W.; one son Jerry of Monett; a brother, Bill Williams, of Carthage; one sister, Mrs. Shirley Bradley of Springfield, and four grandchildren. Daughter of Thomas A.
