Roy McCluer received a burned hand getting the box out of the store. - My Creed - Written by Bert McClure -October 12, 1951 - I do not choose to be a common man. It is my right to be uncommon, if I can. I seek opportunity, not security. I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled And dulled by having the state look after me. I want to take the calculated risk, to dream And, to build, to fall and succeed. I refuse to barter incentive for a dole. Family

MCCLURE, Mary Ann (DUNCAN) Nov. 15, 1850

Dec. 17, 1918
Eldorado,
Jackson Co., OK
Inscription: "Wife of David G." - Research Note: She was a daughter of William and Sarah (Hines) Duncan. David G. McClure married Mary A. Duncan on Mar. 25, 1869 in Jackson Co., IL. - Cassville Republican, Thursday, January 16, 1919 - In Memoriam - Died, on December 17th 1918, Mary A. McClure, aged sixty-eight years, one month and two days. Mrs. McClure died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. B. Smith, in Eldorado, Oklahoma, where she had gone last September to spend the winter. Mary A. Duncan was born in Indiana, November 15th, 1850. She moved with her parents to Jackson county, Ill., when a girl of ten, where she passed her girlhood days. In 1867 she was married to David G. McClure. One week after their marriage they moved to Cherokee county, Kansas, where they lived until 1887. She and her husband endured many hardships in the pioneer days in Kansas. There their children Herbert, Clarence, Ella, Dora and Ada were born. Two of the children died there in infancy. The family moved to Barry county, Missouri in 1887 and resided there until Mr. McClure's death in 1904. Mrs. McClure still made Barry county her home though she frequently spent long periods of time with her children. She visited at different times in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and various points in Missouri, but there is no place called "home" and loved like she did Old Barry county. She leaves two children living, C. H. McClure of Warrensburg, Mo., and Mrs. Ada Smith of Eldorado, Oklahoma. Mrs. McClure was converted and became a member of the Congregational church about 1870. She lived a consistent, consecrated Christian life from that time to her death. Her testimony for years past has been that of a fully consecrated soul waiting and ready for the Lord's coming. Her thoughts were continually for others and never for her own comfort. The following taken from her testimony published in the Banner June 13th, 1918, expresses well her attitude toward life: "As I grow older I find such a deep and abiding interest in that other world. What peace to be in a world where our higher (spiritual) nature could know and commute with the spirit ones about us, and where the Lord of Heaven abides. What a contrast it will be to the present chaotic conditions of this earth. And as some one has said: 'I cannot make it seem a day to dread, when from this earth I purvey out to that dear country of the dead and join the loved ones so long dreamed about.' I love the Lord and I shall love to go, and see Him and the friends who wait for me I know." Family

MILLER, Jeremiah "Jerry" H. Apr. 6, 1834
Fulton Co., IA
Jan. 26, 1916
Mineral Springs,
Barry Co., MO
The Secretary of State's office indexed his death certificate as Jessie because it was written Jerrie and looks somewhat like Jessie. The death date matches the date that Jerry died but the certificate has Jan. 30, 1836, born in IA as his birth record. John Periman gave the information. Jeremiah Miller married Mary Jane Haddock, daughter of Greenberry and Amanda (Smith) Haddock, died in 1916 and Marthena R. Aldridge, daughter of Andrew Bolen and Patricia (Melton) Aldridge, died in 1905. This unreadable stone was near the Marthena Miller stone. Stone has some lettering. Jeremiah was buried by his wife. - Cassville Republican, Feb. 3, 1916 - Jeremiah Miller, known as Uncle "Jerry" Miller died on Wednesday morning, January 26 and Mrs. Miller on Thursday morning, January 27, 1916, only about 24 hours apart. Funeral services for Mr. Miller were held at the Mineral Springs Baptist Church Thursday, conducted by Revs. Ennes and Riddle. The funeral for Mrs. Miller was conducted near Jenkins on Friday. Mr. Miller had been twice married and his body was buried by the side of his first wife. He and his second wife had been married only about ten years. Her family cemetery was near Jenkins and her body was laid to rest there. Jeremiah Miller was born in Iowa in 1834. He came to this state sometime before the Civil War. He enlisted in Co. B. of the 24 Missouri Infantry and served faithfully until the close of the war. Sometime after the war he moved to Barry County were he continued to live until his death. For many years he lived in the locality about Mineral Springs, was a member of the Baptist Church at that place and an honored and respected citizen. He left no children, except an adopted son, Roy Miller of Tulsa, Okla. Roy arrived in time to attend the funeral. - Feb. 3, 1916, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Mineral Springs News: Uncle Jerry Miller, an old and highly respected citizen of this county was buried here Thursday of last week. He took lagrippe which developed into pneumonia which cased his death. He was for many years a resident to Mineral and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was 82 years old.
