Research Note: Callaway Funeral Home buried Rev. Levi Allen on Feb. 18, 1909. He was age 59 years and 4 mos. old. He was a farmer and a minister. The cause of his death was bowel trouble. Michael Stone's post: Rev. Levi Allen, is the son of Cornell Tipton Porter and Lucinda (Curtis) Allen. His full name was Levi Meshack Abendego Thomas Allen. Nancy E. Allen, was Levi's first wife, Nancy Elizabeth Marshall. She was the daughter of Thomas H. Marshall and Sarah Elizabeth Meser. All the other Allens in this cemetery, are assumed to be their children. Research Note: He was the son of Leland Monroe and Eva Lois (Grobe) Ashley. Being raised on a farm in Blackhawk County, IA, Royce started farming at age 10. He also did custom threshing. Royce graduated from LaPorte City High School with the Class of 1940. He then attended business college, studying banking. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force on September 24, 1942, and served our country during World War II. On Easter Sunday, April 25, 1943, Royce married Elaine Carol Steffen of Cedar Falls, IA, at St. Peter's American Evangelical Lutheran Church, Santa Ana, CA, where he was stationed. After an honorable discharge from military service on January 21, 1946, Royce returned to farming in his home state of Iowa. In January of 1957, Royce and Elaine packed up their truck and a small trailer and moved their family of four children to Monett, MO, where Royce worked as a masonry apprentice. They soon bought an 89 acre farm northwest of town with his GI Bill. This came to be known as Ashley's Acres, where Royce and Elaine lived for 50 years, during which time they raised five children, many hogs, cattle, other animals and crops. | Buchanan Funeral Home Phyllis Long |

Research Note: He was the son of Irvin Louis Bauer and Edna Marie (Dollard) Bauer. Following his school years, Lee Roy served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. On January 27, 1956, Lee Roy and Gladys Leseberg were united in marriage at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Canyon, TX. To this union, three children were born. Throughout Lee Roy's working years, he spent most of it farming, ranching and working for several road districts as a heavy equipment operator. In 1969, Lee Roy and Gladys moved their family from Canyon to Verona, MO. That is where they resided until moving to Marionville in 2006. Lee Roy was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Monett, a member of the V.F.W. Post #430, Canyon, TX, and served two terms as school board member for Verona. Research Note: Daughter of Paul Lambert Schroder and Eileen Effie (Bathurst) Edner. In 1938, Mary and her family moved to Seymour, MO where her father bought a dairy farm. Mary graduated from Seymour High School with the class of 1954. Mary started playing the piano and organ at age 14. Through the years, she was able to share her musical talents as she played the organ for many different churches. Mary was a very kind and generous person and almost never met a stranger. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett. Throughout her career, Mary worked as a Dental Assistant in Oklahoma City, OK before taking over the management position of the In-Flight kitchen for the Air Force. Once moving to Panama City, Mary worked for a contractor providing food service at the dining hall at Tyndall Air Force Base. Lastly, after moving to Yuma, AZ, Mary took over as Manager of the cafeteria for the Marine Corps Air Station. Mary was united in marriage to L D Cantrell on Aug. 12, 1954 in Diggens, MO. They were blessed with three children and over sixty-nine years of wonderful memories made together. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Jim Schroder. Survivors include her husband; one daughter; two sons; one brother; two sisters; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Research Note: Daughter of Benjamin and Augusta (Kaiser) Joeckel. Bertha attended Trinity Lutheran School in Freistatt and was a drummer in the Drum and Bugle Corp. She worked as a telephone operator for the Freistatt Telephone Exchange, which was run by her parents in their home, and later as a clerk at Best Cleaners in Monett. Bertha married Oren Doennig on July 14, 1942, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt. She lived in Monett for a short time, then joined her husband in Phoenix, Arizona, where he was stationed during World War II. Research Note: Son of Oren and Bertha (Joeckel) Doennig. He graduated from Monett High School and from Missouri Southern State College in Joplin with a degree in Political Science. He then attended the University of Missouri-Columbia and earned his Master's degree in Library Science. David and Sue (Luebber) were married May 24, l969 in Joplin, MO and recently celebrated their 46th anniversary. His career began at the Monett Public Library in Monett, MO in l970 as the adult services librarian. Two years later he became the director of the library. He was instrumental in the formation of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library. During his tenure several new facilities were built or remodeled including the library at Monett, Aurora, Miller and Marionville. He later became the director of the Stone County Library where new libraries were built in Galena, MO and Crane, MO. He was involved in several state library organizations including the Missouri Library Association, the Missouri Public Directors Association and MOREnet. David served as an officer in these organizations. David was on the Monett Housing Authority that created Sunset Villa, a senior living facility and also was a manager. After being a part of the Monett City Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years, he retired in 2015. He was a certified Firefighter I and II instructor and also had certification in Fire Photography. He was very proud to have been a Missouri High School Official and received recognition for serving 25 years as an official for basketball, baseball and his favorite sport football. Research Note: He was the fifth child of Charles and Martha (Fellwock) Doennig. His family moved to town while he was young, and he was educated in the Monett school system. Oren began working at age 16 during the Great Depression. He drove truck for his father’s grocery delivery route that ran from Monett to Branson, and he worked in his father’s moving business. In 1940, while farming a small acreage northeast of Monett, Oren met his life-long love, Bertha Joeckel. The couple married in July of 1942, just before he was inducted for Army service during World War II. Oren and Bertha were married for almost 73 years, with Bertha preceding him in death in May of this year. Oren was sent to Camp Carson near Colorado Springs, Colorado, and was placed in Company M of the 89th Division. Later, he joined the 14th Infantry – Panama Unit, and ended his Army career in the 71st Division working at Camp Papago Park Prisoner of War Camp near Phoenix, Arizona. He also worked in Phoenix as a mechanic for a local dairy. Bertha joined him in Phoenix, and despite the war, the couple greatly enjoyed their life there. In 1946, they moved back to Monett to care for family, and Oren opened a service station at the corner of Frisco and West Broadway. At the age of fifteen, Esther worked as a domestic for the Baer family of St. Louis. On one occasion she met Amelia Earhart, famed aviatrix, in St. Louis, MO. On April 24, 1938 she and Arno Kleiboeker were married, sharing sixty-four years before his death in 2002. Esther assisted her husband in his business activities, as well as selling Avon products for a number of years. She was also a census taker. In the 1970's she served in the hospital auxiliary for St. Vincent's Hospital in Monett. She volunteered at Loaves and Fishes for 27 years and was the chairwoman of the meal packers for a number of years. For 38 years, Esther worked as a committee woman for the Lawrence County Republican Central Committee, supporting this committee for 34 years. In 1998 she received the Rosemary Pitt Award from the state of Missouri for her exemplary service in electoral matters. She was a faithful lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and participated in many church activities including LWML, Friend's Club, Ladies Aid and the Braille Society. At the age of 98 she joined the American Legion Auxiliary in Freistatt.
