McCASLING, Robert | 1832 | 1901 | Inscription: "FARRIER - CO D 1ST ARK CAV." - Research Note: A farrier is one who shoes horses. Name is probably McCaslin but stone reads McCasling. First wife was Lethey Ann (Nordin) (McCasling) Swinford. His second wife was Mary Frances (Prier) (Hudson) McCasling, married on Nov. 22, 1865 in Lawrence Co., MO. - Notes posted at findagrave by R. Nelson Collier: In the 1890 Veteran's Schedules for Republic, Greene, Missouri, Robert McCaslin is recorded as having been a private in Company B, First Arkansas Cavalry. He enlisted in 1862 and was discharged in 1865. After Robert's death on 5 Sept. 5, 1901, both Francis Pryor (Hudson) McCasling and Letha Ann (Nordin) (McCaslin) Swinford applied for widow's pensions as the wife of Robert McCaslin/McCasling. One of the witnesses to Letha's claim was George Washington McCaslin, first cousin to Robert W. McCaslin, whom Letha asked to identify her. George wrote to the Commissioner of Pensions: "Commissioner of Pensions - Washington D.C. - Sir, I will give you a brief history of Ann Letha McCaslins case. I am a first cousin to the deceased Robert McCaslin and know where of I say. Robert McCaslin was married to Ann Letha Norden about 1858 lived together until the Civil War come up. Deceased went into the army. Served his time out and was discharged and never returned to his wife and said Ann Letha married again to one Mr. (John) Swinford. Swinford died and said Ann Letha married again. The name I can not remember [she did not remarry] and said Robert McCaslin died in Missouri having another family. Neither party ever obtained any divorce. These are facts I thought it my duty to inform the office of this as said Ann Letha has called on me to identify her. Said Robert McCaslin was a good soldier. The Writer served in the same Company and regiment. - Geo. W. McCaslin in F. L. T." So neither Robert nor Letha got a divorce before they remarried. Francis then dropped her claim to a pension as Robert's widow and asked for a renewal of her pension as the widow of William C. Hudson, which she got at the rate of $12 a month, commencing on Sept. 16 1901. In reviewing the muster rolls for Robert McCaslin from the time of mustering in he held the rank of private and he is reported as carrying out duties herding beef and at other times delivering meat between Fort Smith and Fayetteville, Arkansas and being otherwise on duty at the Post Corral presumably caring for livestock. One would not think Privates would be engaging in covert activities for the Union Army, a crime punishable by death if caught. It was during this period that one muster roll listed him as "On detached service as Spy in Ark." Sixty-four-year old Robert McCasling applies for an invalid pension on Mar. 4, 1890. He declares that his residence is Billings, Christian, Missouri, that for 30 years immediately preceding his enlistment into the US military he resided in Vanburen, Arkansas, and that his occupation was that of a farmer. Since his discharge he has resided in Christian (Post office Billings) and Lawrence (Post Office Chesepeak) Counties, Missouri, and his occupation is that of a farmer. He states that his disability is a disease of the chest, the result of measles at McCullahs, Missouri, Oct. 15, 1863. He has been treated by Dr. McCord of Billings and Dr. Sears of Hall Town. He suffered from "pneumonia fever" in 1886, suffers nearly all the time with trouble of lungs, taking colds and coughing. He has been treated by Dr. E. B. Brown of Billings, Missouri. He has worked some at times on the farm with moderation. When he does any hard work, it sets him coughing and effects his lungs and breast, making him sore and weak. He states that he served in the military one time from 1862 to 1865. He signs this document with an "X", his mark. No evidence was found in his military records. Eventually after much paperwork, including evidence of indigence, he does get his pension. | MO Marriage Records Census Phyllis Long Photo Diana Cope |

She began working at Greenlawn Cemetery in Springfield, MO and this is where her 30-year career in the cemetery and funeral home industry began. After having resided in Billings and Republic, MO, she and her kids relocated to Broken Arrow, OK for a short time before moving on to Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee, OK. She moved to Sapulpa, OK and worked at Green Hill Cemetery. Shortly later, she then moved to Tulsa, OK, where she worked and founded a nonprofit funeral home in north Tulsa for low-income families. She worked at various cemeteries and funeral homes in Tulsa, and while her kids were high school and middle school age, Marlisa pursued her very first bachelor's degree. She received her bachelor's degree in Funeral Science from the University of Central Oklahoma as a single mom. After sending her oldest daughter away to college, she and her son moved to Wentzville, MO for a short time before settling for almost 8 years in Steelville, MO. While in Steelville, she worked at St Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre, MO. Wanting to take a break from the funeral home and cemetery industry, Marlisa listened to her heart and owned and operated T Bar Diamond Western Store in Steelville, MO with her then husband, Tate Tellier. In 2014, Marlisa shocked her family and friends and moved blindly to Yonkers, NY. She began working at Woodlawn Cemetery, a national historic cemetery in Bronx, NY. While she began this job on the sales team, over the next 8 years, Marlisa worked her way up the corporate ladder to the position of Vice President of Sales.
