Cope, 51-year-old former Golden merchant, who has lived in Springfield for the past several years, died at St. John's Hospital there about 5:30 Tuesday afternoon. Born in the Jenkins community, he had spent virtually all his life in Barry County and for 22 years owned and operated a general merchandise store at Golden. In 1957 he suffered the first in a series of heart attacks and sold the Golden business, moving to Springfield and entering the apartment house business. He had entered St. John's Hospital Monday and suffered a fatal attack at 5:30 Tuesday. D.) and Glenda Kay. - Glen Cope was born June 24, 1902 and passed away at his home on May 3, 1967, after a long illness, at the age of 64 years, 10 months and 9 days. He is survived by his wife Thena, one son and one daughter, all of the home. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Vena Hancock of Moro, Ill., Mrs. Thelma Parks and Mrs. Orrene Eaton of Springfield and two brothers George Cope, Tehachapi, California and Bill Cope of Long Beach, Calif. Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Gale, Chester and Bud, and one sister Hilda Cope. Glen's father passed away when he was 19 years old, leaving a family of ten children. Glen stayed on the farm by his mother's side, helping rear and educate the children. A few years later after his mother's death Glen married and now leaves his lovely family, brothers, sisters and many relatives and friends to remember him and mourn his passing. Cope, who preceded her in death Oct. 27, 1921 leaving her with 10 children, all of whom survive her, and were present at the funeral services. They are: Gale Cope, of Cassville; Glen and Hilda of the home; Chester of Kansas City, Kan.; Bill of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Jess Hancock of Jenkins; Bud of Golden; Bunk of Tehachapi, Calif.; Mrs. Hugh Parks of Springfield; Mrs. Milford Eaton of Crane. There are 16 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Roscoe Wiley and Mrs. Robert Salsman of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Harry Albright of Caldwell, Idaho, and Lloyd Wiley of Crane. Also a host of friends and relatives who will surely miss her in the neighborhood. She obeyed the gospel of Christ at the age of 16 years, and had been a faithful member of the church. Under her teaching most of her children have followed her in the faith. Being a widow for 27 years with the help of the older sons she kept the family together and educated them.
