Research Note: He was born on his Great Grandfather's farm in Barry County, Missouri. Bob left the farm to receive an education, serve in the military, and to provide for his family. Upon his retirement from MoDot in 1996, Bob returned to the farm where he continued to raise beef cattle. On October 3, 2014, he departed this life, just a few steps from where he was born. Bob attended college at MU in Columbia and MSU in Springfield. On November 29, 1957, he married his loving wife, Janet Jean Garner at the Scholten Church of Christ. From 1958 to 1960 Bob served in the Army at Fort Sam Huston in San Antonio, Texas. He then worked for the Federal Land Bank in Boliver from 1964 to 1966. Bob then spent 30 years working for MoDot in both Carthage and West Plains. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Pate Olan and Beatrice Ethyl (Puett) Bassett; one son, Robert Bruce Bassett and one sister, Barbara Ann Bassett. Manlove-Stumpff

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her son Randy Brown; husband Joe Brown; sister Lois Blades; a great-granddaughter Sophie Friend, and 2 sons-in-law Keith Cauthen and Dwight Camron. She was blessed with 19 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other family. She was best known as Granny, the title she treasured the most. She was "Granny" to not only her own family but extended family, friends, and the community. Throughout her life she was employed with GB Manufacturing, FASCO, University Agent, farmer, homemaker, babysitter, and a host of odd jobs. Janet enjoyed painting, fishing, yard sales, quilting, making jewelry, embroidery, flowers, gardening and spending time with her family, but bargain shopping was her favorite past time. She never met a stranger. She loved to talk and never turned anyone away. She was selfless with her children and her grandchildren knew they could always count on Granny to help any way she could. She is greatly loved and will be missed by all. Burial will be in Mars Hill Cemetery, Crane, MO. - Her husband has a double stone but Janet's side has no writing. Stumpff Funeral Home
