Arthur Erwin





Arthur Erwin died in action on 11/11/1918. He was a relative of my husband, Glenn Erwin. Arthur Erwin was born 1892 in Wayne, Barry Co., Missouri, and was a son of William S. "Bill" Erwin (Dec. 25, 1856 - Barry Co., MO, Jan 27, 1938 - Barry Co., MO) and Fonia David Stephens (Aug. 19, 1864 - Barry Co., MO - March 24, 1939 Barry Co., MO) and was buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Barry Co., MO. Arthur was killed in action during WW1 on November 11, 1918 (the last day of the War). He was a Private in the U.S. Army with the 89th Infantry Division, 356 Infantry Regiment, which was engaged at Argonne and Rhine. He is burial at Plot F Row 8 Grave 29 Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery. Romagne France. Arthur Erwin enter the service on 4/26/1918 and assigned to the 89th Division nickname Rolling "W". He trained at Fort Riley, Kansas and served overseas 6/4/1918 until killed in action on 11/11/1918. His mother, Fonia Erwin was a "Gold Star Mother" eligible to take the Mother’s Pilgrimage in 1930 to the cemetery in France. She elected not to go.
