According to reports from the Missouri State Water Patrol, the victim, Andrew Jones, had been tubing and was boarding the boat when he complained of being cold. His father, James C. Jones, reportedly told him to take off his life preserver and go to the bow of the boat with the other passengers. Jones accelerated the pontoon, unaware that the boy had gone to the front of the boat to sit with his legs dangling into the water. Jones told water patrol officials that he heard a thump and looked into the water to see the victim floating. He jumped into the lake and pulled his son from the water. The victim was transported to St. John's Hospital in Carroll County, Arkansas, by private vehicle, and then airlifted to St. John's Hospital in Springfield where he later succumbed to his injuries. The incident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. at King's River in Barry County, about three-quarters of a mile from the bridge. - Another Photo - Another Photo | News Item Phyllis Long Monett Times Photos Jay Trace |
