Research Note: Son of Hiram P. and Florence (McGlothlin) Edens. He married Clara Bell Moore in January of 1928, and she preceded him in death on September 30, 1965, buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. He was a lifelong Barry County resident and was employed for 17 years with Pet Milk Company. He worked for the Cassville Police Department for 14 years and served as chief of police, retiring 26 years ago. He was a member of Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church in Cassville and was a charter member of Barry County Mounted Sheriff's Posse. Additional survivors include one son, two daughters, one step-son, one sister, four grandchildren, several great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons and one sister, Alva Clark. - He married Clara V. (Robison) Henbest Edens on April 28, 1993. Brother of Alva E. Clark (Died June 6, 1996) and Lois Browning. The family came from Hancock Co., TN. He married Harriet Wallace, 4 Feb. 1884. His death certificate is registered with the Secretary of State's office as having been in Barry Co., MO. - Cassville Democrat, Oct. 18, 1934 - JOHN EDEN, WELL KNOWN MAN OF WASHBURN, DIES - Succumbs at Age of 80, After Long, Honorable And Useful Life-Came To Barry County Years Ago. - John C. Edens was born November 23, 1853, in Hancock County, Tenn. He died at his home near Washburn, October 12, 1934, at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 20 days. He came to Missouri with his parents in early life and later united in marriage to Harriet Wallace. To this union four children were born, who are N. E. Edens, Orber H. Edens and Jettie Jones, all of Washburn, and a son Virgil W. Edens, who departed this life in infancy. Beside his wife and three children, he is survived by three brothers and three sisters, who are C. M. Edens, Garfield, Ark; Bob Edens and Hiram Edens, Washburn, Pollyann Roller, Mary E. Wilson and Fannie Henry, all of Seligman, MO. He also leaves four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He professed faith in Christ in middle of life. He was a good companion, a loving father and a worthy citizen. He will be greatly missed by his family and neighbors. Funeral services were held at the Washburn church, on Saturday afternoon, October 13, by Rev. Charles Vanzandt. Burial was in the King Cemetery, near Seligman, under the direction of the Koon Funeral Service. - Another Photo Obit

She was in her 88th year, having been born Nov. 23, 1828. She was the widow of the late Pittser Edens who lived for years in the Rock Springs locality near Washburn. They moved to this county from Tennessee about 47 years ago and located on what is now known as the old Edens homestead. She was the mother of Mrs. J. A. Roller, Mrs. R. L. Henry, Mrs. J. W. Anderson, Mrs. Mary Wilson, Curtis Edens, J.C. Edens, H. P. Edens, J. M. and Bob Edens, all of whom live in the Rock Springs locality except Curtis who lives near Garfield, Ark. Eggleston an old time and highly respected citizen of this county residing in Ash Twp., passed away at her home Monday morning following an extended illness. She was 71 years old and the mother of Doc Eggleston, prominent Ash Twp. Farmer, and Chas. Eggleston also of that section. She was 71 years old and had lived in the county many years. Funeral services were held Tuesday Afternoon after which the remains were laid to rest in the P. E. Roller cemetery near her old home. Fine, 25, Washburn and Mary Rhodes, 22, Washburn - Cassville Democrat, MO, Sept. 30, 1905 - Rock Springs News: Monday, the 18th, J. M. Fine, went to Tulsa, I. T. in response to a telegram announcing the serious illness of his son, and we learn that about the time Mr. Fine left Washburn his son, David Fine, died about 15 miles from Tulsa, of malaria fever and congestion of the brain. The remains were brought home and buried Thursday afternoon at 2:30 in the cemetery near P. E. Roller's. He was about 34 years old and leaves a wife and two children, mother, five brothers and two sisters and a number of other relatives and friends to mourn his death. Eld. J. H. John and Laura are buried by each other in King Cemetery. Obit from Florence Rose's scrapbook: Edith Henry, 98, Washburn, died at 3:20 a.m. Tuesday at a Cassville nursing home, where she had been a patient two years. Born June 3, 1882, in the state of Missouri, Mrs. Henry worked several years as a practical nurse in Wood Lake, Calif., hospital. In the late 1960's, she returned to the Washburn area and became a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Faye Burris, Wood Lake, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Phillips, Big Cabin, Okla;and two grandchildren. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Axley's Culver Chapel in Cassville. The Rev. Hugh Higgs and the Rev. Jean Latshaw officiated. Burial was in King's Cemetery, south of Washburn. - Edith Henley was the wife of Robert "Bob" Randolph Fine. Her daughter Faye was married to Alva Wayne Burris and her son Joe Thomas Fine died in a logging accident in California. He was living in Woodlake, CA at the time of the accident. The Bob Fine place connected with the George Brannan farm in the early part of the 1900's. Obit

Wife's name was Vesta (Anderson) Freed. - Cassville Republican, Jan. 24, 1957 - Injury Fatal To Washburn Man - Gilbert Freed, 82, who was stuck by an automobile while crossing Highway 37 at Washburn early in January, died Wednesday afternoon of last week. Mr. Freed was born February 16, 1874 in Benton, Ark., and moved to Washburn in 1894 where he farmed until 1942. His wife died in 1942. Surviving are two brothers, Homer Freed of Holton, Kansas and John Freed of Neosho. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Washburn Church of Christ with Bro. Morton Woodward officiating. Research Note: Sarah Christina was a daughter of Alfred P. and Elizabeth (Lough) Gowen and married Pleasant Frost about 1869. She was born near McMinnville, TN. Her siblings were Martha, Amanda, Mary, Walter and Burl Anderson. - Cassville Democrat, October 12, 1907 - A Good Citizen Dead: Died, Oct. 3, 1907, Christina Frost, after a lingering illness of nearly a year. The remains were laid to rest in the Roller Cemetery, Oct. 5. The deceased was a daughter of Col. Alfred and Elizabeth Gowen, and was born near Murfreesboro, Tenn., July 6, 1853, coming to this county in 1856, where she lived most of her life. Sept. 9, 1869, she was married to Pleasant M. Frost, who with three children, Wm. O., and Daisy Frost, and Mrs. Manta McCary, survive her. One son, Thomas B., died in early life. She was a member of the Christian Church and lived the life of a Christian. It was her way to aid the weak and helpless. No wanderer ever went from her door unaided. She was first married and divorced to Edwin M. Humphrey. After William's death, she married Miner J. Swearingen. She died in 1960, Corpus Christi, Nueces Co., TX and is buried there in Rosehill Cemetery. In the 1930 Census, Corpus Christi, Nueces, Texas, William is age 59 and a real estate dealer, with wife Gertrude, age 45.
