Although they don't show up well in the picture, the stones are piled several deep round this tree. Jack said that he uncovered all the scribed stones that he saw without digging into the pile. He said that he believes there are more stones to be found in locations scattered around the area.

The Old Keetsville Cemetery is located on 14 acres of land owned by Mrs. Lorraine Roller in 2007. It is in the northeast part of Washburn in section 27, township 22N, range 28W.

Forty or more years ago a previous owner plowed under the cemetery. The stones were collected and piled around trees. Ted Roller and Jack Fly found one of the piles of headstones August 14, 2007 while searching for this cemetery.

Jack said: "Due to the density of the brush and extreme heat of the day we gave up the search for more stones. We plan to return when the vegetation has died down and the weather cools off. Restoration of this cemetery would be impossible due to the removable of the stones and bases. If enough stones can be found it might be possible to pick a central location in the now destroyed cemetery and reset the surviving stones as a memorial to those buried there.

Stewart and Eliza Ann Gay, married on Sept. 5, 1854 in Barry Co., MO. Eliza was the daughter of Daniel Gay and Zarilda Jane Miller. Notes for A. J. Stewart from Goodspeed: In May, 1874, A. J. Stewart was road commissioner. - A petition from the people of Keetsville was presented to the court in Apr. 1868 by A. J. Stewart, asking that the old name of this town be changed to Washburn. The petition was granted. - After the war, J. R. Smith and Squire A. H. Cave were postmasters. They were succeeded by A. J. Stewart.- Phyllis' note: I found no burial record for A. J., maybe buried here at Old Keetsville. - Obit for Charles and Nancy's mother, Eliza Ann (Gay) Stewart - May 26, 1917, Cassville Democrat - Mrs. E. A. Stewart Dead: Another excellent mother and sister has been summoned to come up higher and dwell with her blessed in that land of pure delight, and there bask in the sunlight of her Great Redeemer, whom she trusted and loved as was exemplified by a Godly life and daily walk. She left a rich heritance of a well spent life, self sacrificing, kind and affectionate to all. At Washburn, where she lived so long in this city, she was held in the highest estimation obey all who had the pleasure of the acquaintance. Mrs. E. A. (Gay) Stewart was a daughter of the late Mr. Daniel C. and Mrs. Jane Gay and was born May 21, 1835, in Missouri and grew to womanhood at Washburn, Mo. She and the late Rev. A. J. Stewart were married sometime before the civil war, to who were born six children, two of whom survive the mother, who are: Edward Stewart, a well known and highly respected citizen of Durant, Okla., and Dr. Fred Stewart a surgeon in the U. S. Army and who is now stationed in the Philippine Islands. She was the only living sister of Mrs. Jane McClure of this city, and was a sister of the late Mrs. Minerva Oakly of Washburn, and Mrs. Thos. Keet of Springfield, Mo. She had made her home with her son Edward at Durant, Okla., for many years and died there, Friday, May 18, 1917, of apoplexy, age 81 years, 11 months and 20 days. According to her wishes the remains were shipped to Springfield, Mo., and there taken to the home of her niece, Mrs. John R. Smith, where funeral services were conducted and the remains then interred in Hazelwood Cemetery beside her mother. They were accompanied by her son Edward Stewart and his son Daniel. She had been a member of the Presbyterian Church for many years and had lived a consistent Christian life. Mrs. Jane McClure, her sister and Mrs. S. W. Chandler, a niece, attended the funeral in Springfield Saturday. - This is an obit for Charles and Nancy's sister: March 19, 1904, Cassville Democrat - Drowned in a Well: Britton, Okla., March 9. A very strange tragedy occurred last evening about five o'clock' about four and one half miles west of Britton, Mrs. W. H. Dye, the wife of a well to do and prominent farmer, fell into a well and was drowned. Mr. Dye and two friends had just left the house probably fifteen minutes previous, when their attention was attracted towards the house by her mother, Mrs. Stewart. On their return to the house they found Mrs. Dye, in the well dead. Mrs. Dye had suffered for many years from heart disease and is possible that she was suddenly overcome while drawing a pail of water from the well. A cloud of mystery surrounds the tragedy. Mrs. Dye was a Christian and a member of the Methodist Church, a lady of excellent character, beloved by all who knew her. The victim of the sad tragedy is well know in Oklahoma City and a large circle of sincere friends will deeply regret the terrible fate that has befallen her and will extend heartfelt sympathy to the sorely stricken family. Mrs. W. H. Dye was born and resided at Washburn, this county, and was a daughter of the late A. J. Stewart, and Mrs. Ann Stewart and a sister of Ed Stewart of Yellville, Ark., and a cousin of Mrs. Dr. Chandler, Mrs. J. W. George and W. D. and Guy McClure of this city, Chas. McClure, Harrison, Ark., and Dr. White McClure of Carterville. The well was 45 feet deep. It seems that a part of the curbing gave way that caused her to fall in. The mother, Mrs. Stewart was there at the time. Ed Stewart and family of Yellville, Ark, attended the funeral. - Same paper: Mrs. Anna Stewart and her son, Ed, of Yellville, Ark., stopped off in this city, Tuesday, to visit their many relatives and friends. They were sadly affected over the death of Mrs. Emma Dye, her daughter and his sister, an account of which is published in another place in the Democrat. Goodspeed
