Inscription: "Father" - Research Note: John Dake Long was a son of John Dake and Lavina (Bellah) Long. His death certificate reads that he was a son of John Long and Vina Beller. He was listed as a widower and he died from the effects of heart trouble. Mrs. Henry Scroggins gave the information. - Vina Beller was Lavina Bellah and he was buried in Kane Cemetery and was born in Douglas County, MO, not Barry County as the death certificate reads. He was a brother to George Long who married Sarah Frances Smith, my great-great grandparents. - Cassville Republican, August 28, 1930 - Old Citizen Dies Suddenly: John D. Long, one of the old respected citizens of Cassville and one of Barry county's native sons died suddenly at his home Monday. John D. Long was born in Barry county near Jenkins on March 3, 1854, and was 76 years, 5 months and 22 days. At the age of 20 years he was united in marriage to Miss Martha Dennis and to them were born 14 children, 13 of whom survive. They are Mrs. Samantha Bunton, Webb City; Mrs. Alice Means, Pierce City, Mrs. Cora Armstrong, Cassville; Mrs. Kizzie Corley, Rocky Comfort; Mrs. Mattie Schutt, Joplin; Curtis Long, Rocky Comfort; Mrs. Lettle Scoggins, Cassville; Harvey Long, Cassville, Mrs. Grettie Garoot, Madry; Mrs. Mannie Fare, Jenkins; Mrs. Maudie Johnson, Sedan, Kan.; Wes Long, Bucklin Kan., and John Long, Kansas City, Kan. He professed faith in Christ many years ago and united with the Christian church. His wife died in 1917 and about nine years ago he moved to Cassville which has since been his home, he and his son, Harvey living together. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the Christian church in Cassville at 1 p.m., conducted by Rev. R. M. Long died at the home of one of the Doty families near Jenkins Saturday night, December 8, following a very short illness. Mr. and Mrs. Long lived on the Troy Williamson farm west of Cassville two miles. They moved from near Jenkins to this farm, which they bought about two years ago. Thursday, Mrs. Long and her little son went for a visit near Jenkins. Sunday the news came here of her death. Wilson. - August 19, 1915, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Personal and Local News: Tuesday out on the Jenkins road Dr. Periman of Jenkins, who was driving in his auto, met W. C. Robertson, superintendent of the county farm who was driving in a buggy, on a grade where he could not stop his car. Seeing that he had lost control of the car, Periman signaled Robertson who jumped from his buggy and escaped injury, but the buggy was pretty badly damaged. Dr. Periman then took Mr. Robertson home. The only damage done to the auto was the braking of one light. - July 20, 1916, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Personal and Local News: I. M. Periman of Jenkins was acquitted by a jury in the circuit court here Monday of a charge of practicing medicine without a license. A bill had been found against him by the Grand Jury. Address, Jenkins, Barry Co., MO. - Cassville Democrat, Oct. 15, 1927 - JOE PERRIMAN DIES FOLLOWING 2 OPERATIONS: Joel Young Perriman, prominent Jenkins citizen, died at the Ozark Hospital in Aurora, last Sunday following a second operation for a bowel ailment from which he has suffered for the past few months. Mr. Perriman was born and raised in this county in the Jenkins country, where he has spent most of his life. He was a son of William and Martha Perriman, highly respected and old time citizens of this county during their life time and was 56 years old. He was born February 3, 1872 and was married to Mary Irby in the year 1892, to which one child was born which died in infancy. In 1902 the deceased became a member of the Christian church and lived a clean, honorable Christian life. He is survived by his good wife, one sister, Mrs. Peggy Potter, and two brothers, Earnest and Harry, both of Jenkins. Funeral services were conducted at the family home Monday afternoon by Rev. G. G. Cottrell of Shell Knob, after which the remains were laid to rest in the King cemetery near the old home. Mr. Perriman has been in business at Jenkins many years and operated the hotel there at the time of his death. His health had been failing for sometime and it was thought the operation would save him, but all efforts were in vain. Inscription: "Father" Research Note: His wife was Kizza Long, daughter of John Dake and Martha (Dennis) Long. - Cassville Republican, September 10, 1914 - John Sullivan, son of Matt Sullivan, died Monday morning, August 31, 1914, at his home two and one half miles southwest of Jenkins of typhoid fever, age 20 years and 19 days. His ailments were not pronounced serious at first but was soon pronounced to be in a very dangerous condition. He battled the disease bodily but it was all in vain. John was a young man of excellent habits and was liked by all who knew him. He is survived by his widow and one little daughter, Velma, a father, mother, two sisters and other relatives. His untimely death has brought sorrow to many hearts. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Shiloh Church, conducted by Rev. D. F. Coones. She was the daughter of Jesse Galloway, and was born in Jefferson Co., Ind., in 1817 and came to Barry County in 1837; was married in 1840 to M. Langston. She was left a widow early in life and married John Sullivan in 1875. He died several years ago and she remained a widow the balance of her life. She leaves four children: Henry and A. J. Langston, Mrs. G. R. King and Mrs. John King. About three years ago a horse fell with her and broke her shoulder, from which she never fully recovered. She was loved by all who knew her for her kind and charitable disposition, and her death will be mourned by many relatives and friends. She professed religion early in life and for the past fifteen years has been a member of the Church of Christ, but she has answered the call, "Come up higher." Her mansion on earth is left desolate but her heavenly mansion is tenanted. She was laid to rest in the King cemetery amid a large gathering of relatives and neighbors with singing and prayer.
