HENSON, Elisha | 1813 TN |

SSW: Anna LaForce - Inscription: "Together Forever" - Research Note: Son of Thomas Henson and Rebecca Langston. - Bio from ancestry.com: ELISHA HENSON, born 28 January 1813 in Tennessee, and died 8 May 1880 in Missouri (probably in Barry County, Missouri). Married to Anna La Force, born about 1812 in Kentucky (census reading). Died after 1880, They are both buried in King Cemetery, near Jenkins, Barry County, Missouri. Elisha Henson and family are first found in the 1840 census reading in Taney Co., Missouri. They are in the part which was established in 1851 as Stone County, Missouri. They are living adjacent to his parents, brothers and sisters, and possibly her brother, James LaForce and family. They are no doubt living up and down Flat Creek where they settled about 1835. Elisha and Anna LaForce Henson came to Taney County, Missouri about 1835, probably at the same time as his father and other members of the Henson family. Elisha and family may have moved to Barry County, Missouri soon after 1850, or it could have been that a new land survey was taken and some of the family found their homes in Barry County, after the establishment of Stone County from the western part of Taney County, Missouri, in 1851. Elisha's oldest son was married in Barry Co., Missouri in 1854. This was Thomas William Henson and Sarah Jane King. When the 1860 census was taken Elisha and family are found in Stone County, Missouri. There are no Henson marriages recorded in Barry County, Missouri before 1854. It is quite likely that some of the older children were married in Taney Co., MO. The early records of Taney County were destroyed by fire. An Elisha Henson was performing marriages in Barry County, Missouri, and signed as being a minister of the gospel. The present generation can not recall hearing that Elisha was a minister. All the older Henson's except Thomas Henson, Jr. are found living in Flat Creek Township in 1840. James LaForce is found in Flat Creek Township. He may have been the brother of Anna LaForce Henson. Elisha Henson and family were living in the Jenkins area of Barry County, Missouri in 1850. Elisha Henson had a stone at his grave which could not be repaired. The Henson family members donated funds at the Annual Henson Reunion for a new stone for both Elisha and Anna LaForce Henson. This stone was set at their grave in May 1971. | Bio Phyllis Long Photo Jay Trace |
